Have you definitely got the drive ribbon cables in the right connectors on the chip and the right way round?
If you can upload a picture of the installation we might be able to see if anything is wrong.

will get some pics on sometime today, just trying to look after a very poorly other half, a 18month old and 2 puppys
EDIT - The way its fitted is exactly how rob webbs guide says, including his couple of tiny photos of installation. Still waiting to hear back from him but im regretting buying his chip already after having a proper look at the reviews available online

Did you do this before trying to install? And checked the cut trace with a multimeter to make sure it was cut properly? to add insult to injury i've p ut the console back together normally and its still nackered, still not spinning Without the modchip? In that case it's... not so good

It's been a while since I had a modchip in my 64pin machine but I recall you need the twisted ribbon from the drive to the chip, and the normal one from the chip to the console.

Did it work out in the end? Or did you just throw it out from a second floor window?

I'll pay for shipping if you send it to me instead of throwing it out!

I had a good think though and think i know where i went wrong. Where? Do you think the modchip killed the machine, or is it fixable?

I want to get to the bottom of where i went wrong Take heart, if you've not done anything to your drive (like soldering, cutting traces) the chances are that if the drive was good before it's still good now. When you have the mod chip uninstalled and the cd drive connected directly to the board does it sound like the lens tries to focus when the lid is shut (or the lid switch pressed)? If not, you may want to check that switch is acting as it should but doing a continuity check with a multimeter.

I've never known a badly modified modchip to do any damage to a system, an I've badly modified quite a few haha
