Hello everyone Can anyone tell me if Sonic Jam on the Saturn has the games improved over the original Mega Drive versions? Mainly what im interested in is Sonic 2, and the 2 player mode, and wondering if the major slowdown issue has been fixed or changed. Does it still slow down like crazy or is this fixed? Thanks!!

I find Sonic 2 on the Saturn actually slows down MORE than the original Mega Drive version.
Mind you, it could also be an NTSC issue I have. No clue how it runs in 50hz.
Other than Sonic 2, it's an excellent compilation with near spot-on ports. Even contains original game glitches! (Plus you can lock all the games on top of Sonic & Knuckles)

Ok, ive watched all the videos i could find, and havent yet found one that shows Mystic Cave, which is where the slowdown is worst!! I actually found out about this game on YouTube, ive never seen it available here in Australia. Im asking for first hand info about the game, which those videos do absolutely nothing to show. But thanks all the same I find Sonic 2 on the Saturn actually slows down MORE than the original Mega Drive version. Mind you, it could also be an NTSC issue I have. No clue how it runs in 50hz. Other than Sonic 2, it's an excellent compilation with near spot-on ports. Even contains original game glitches! (Plus you can lock all the games on top of Sonic & Knuckles) Hmmm, so you reckon its about the same or a touch worse than the Mega Drive? Cause i have all the Mega Drive Sonic games, i love to play Sonic 2 against friends, but i was looking for an easy way out of overclocking one of my Mega Drive consoles!! I wouldnt mind getting this for the Saturn, but if its not worth my while ill just leave it and only grab the Game Cube compilation instead of both, what do you reckon? Thankyou both for your input

I'd say Sonic Jam is better than the originals...
The Saturn's actual audio quality is just spectacular... it rapes the (umodded) MD up the ass so hard it hurts
Also they fixed the camera centering bug - the camera never lags behind sonic like it does on MD.
they also added new difficulty levels to the games such as an 'easy' mode that makes them shorter - this is good if you just want a quick playthrough blast.
Tons of extra features that are actually interesting, unlike the generic compilation of apparently random megadrive roms that you get as unlockables on the gamecube collection.
From experience the PAL version doesn't have as much slowdown as the NTSC version but of course on the NTSC version you are playing full-screen and if you switch the PAL version to 60Hz it will run too fast (But hey, it's sonic right?)

After trying Sonic 2 this morning on sonic jam NTSC U, I can confirm there is some slow down at times. Never noticed it much on the pal one. Still I won't let it bother me, it runs fine for the most part.

Although it has less games than other compilations, it is easily the most well presented one, the best effort was put into it and for the additional minor features such as the afoementioned "easy mode" and the Sonic World...it is well worth it. The game is more faithful to the originals in the ways that you want it to be too...

In addition to the points already mentioned, I've noticed the PAL version is actually 50Hz optimised so the music doesn't run slower as well... unlike the original Megadrive versions (I still believe the Star Light Zone theme at this speed could be used as a tranquilizer)! Also, there's some odd emulation glitch involving the waterline of Sonic 3's levels. However, even this can't detract from the fact Sonic Jam was clearly a compilation made with love and care from Sonic Team - do we really expect that from more recent classics packages?

Sonic Jam versions are better in my opinion. Plus you can save the games

It's only better if...
1. You own the PAL version. No issues here other than it's still 50hz despite being optimised, sitll not full screen or as fast as they should be.
Or.
2. You don't care about sonic 2 having random slow down every minute or so for no reason.
