Sengoku Blade. A simple but really fun game. Souky is good too, but not as fun as SB. Thunder Force V is a disgrace in my opinion. Totally boring game. Big let down compared to TFIV.

Planet Joker.

:P Nah nah. If he's a shmupnut, I'm sure he'd appreciate a nice Thunderforce V Special. Any shmupper would feel proud with that in their collection especially when the others are easier to obtain.

Souky is great, but it lacks that addictive quality. Looks really pretty though!

Shienryu is mediocre and cheap. Fun, but not a gift item.

I never even heard of Bokan to Ippatsu...
Sengoku Blade I don't remember playing.

I only have souky out of the games listed. It always features highly in shmups.com polls. I vote for that - it is a class act - and you don't have to worry about TATE-ing either.

I believe the Otokuyu version (which is the one I have) is slightly tweaked. It also has the 1st level of Battle Garegga as a bonus feature.

I'm a shameless Thunderforce fanboy so it's a +1 to TFV

Yup it has a load of bug fixes and of course the Battle Garegga demo.

Load of bug fixes is an understatement. :P

The original, pretty well the entire game is glitched graphically, down to the text to weird artifacts flooding the screen to fonts getting out of control and 3D graphics jibbing out.

As far as I know that only happens on EU or US Saturns using a region cart. Of course I could be wrong.

That is correct. When played on a US/EU Saturn, the game actually detects this and attempts to change into TeraDiver, the English Arcade release. Problem was that the English part of the Saturn port was never finished, hence the glitches.

Sengoku Blade is a hori, no TATEing needed. :)

I've got to say, I don't understand the love for TFV. It's such a weak game compared to TFIII,AC,IV. There are no enviromental dangers at all, just flat straight levels. And it's so unbalanced, Free Range is way overpowered, it's the only weapon you should ever use...
