Are you using a full Rgb scart lead? Many of them are not full Rgb, put out a composite signal instead. My full Rgb scart looks great on my lcd hdtv. I'd imagine a upscaler will make it look better mind you. Apparently there's no way to tell from looking at the cable. I was going to order a new RGB SCART cable, but apparently first I need to check that the SCART socket on my LCD TV is RGB. Otherwise it will make no difference. Ffs. I find Adam K fairly entertaining, although for factual stuff he is obviously useless. Normally I know enough myself to ignore the mistakes, but I guess he should take more responsibility, especially if he's now making money from a patreon rather than it being a pure hobby.

Buy a scart cable from consolegoods.Co.Uk They work on both ntsc and pal. Some pal scarts make ntsc displays tinged red. www.robwebb1.plus.com/saturn/saturnhard.htm

I'd say retro console accessories on eBay or Retro Gaming Cables. Consolegoods cables we're not of a high standard last time I ordered from them.
Also yeah the OSSC does 1080p now but again it's done in a non-standard way, line quintupling, so compatibility is not guaranteed. I've actually just started shipping the latest batch, invites going out in bulk next week. Then it's on to the next batch assuming my money is still worth something thanks to the a*holes in charge of the country at the moment :\

Video quality was much better than my old scart cable by miles.

Ok fellas, you've got me interested in the OSSC. Worth taking a punt at that price given the reviews. Atolm, I'll make sure to check out Adam's video on this. Just for you Bucko, I assume I won't make it into this batch, so can you estimate when the next round is so I can add to my calendar? And will future improvements be purely via firmware, not hardware? If people don't mind, I have a few more n00b questions, seeing as I'm new to all this: - Will OSCC improve the Wii? - Does it help to capture better footage with elgato? I assume not, as it's just adding scanlines. - Ive downloaded some games from PSN on my PS3 e.g. Gunstar Heroes, FFVI and they look shit. Way too stretched. Is this the same picture quality that I'll get from OSSC? I assume PSN games are optimised and therefore best picture quality available... - Or is the above purely an aspect ratio thing? Huge thanks again.

And another one for Bucko re: sound.
Do you mod Saturns to add digital audio out? I have a really good DAC, so I'm considering this.

well it all come down to what's your priority and how much you are willing to spend. there are people who don't mind to spend 300+ for the Framemeister while there are others who just cannot justify the cost no matter how many ways you look at. I'm in the later and with all the short comings this cheap converter does what I needed and that's all I need. Sure I do have the RGB Scart => YUV converter which works surprisingly well but I cannot be bothered to go through all my old stuff in the attic to find it when I just want to play the game in 5 min I can spare. maybe when I get around to build my retro video game mancave when I retire...

Is that design going to supersede the current hardware arrangement?

After this batch I'll be looking at ways to reduce waiting times, so please subscribe to the newsletter so I can update you on that.
Near future the only hardware revision will be to add audio as standard, this will save a little on the cost vs. the current solution (though push the cost up a little compared to the non-audio) and it will mean I don't need to post your unit to a modder to install the audio upgrade.
Depends on your telly and the Wii game in question.
Depends entirely on the capabilities of your capture card.
Never played the emulation on the PS3 couldn't comment. Your TV should have full AR controls for 480p. For 720p and above there's AR controls on the OSSC, but again compatibility with 720p and above modes cannot be guaranteed.
Possibly, the Wolf one is still in very early development, the guy seems to want to do metal enclosures and other stuff which is going to push the cost way up, but I'd work with him if he was willing. For all the hype it doesn't offer that much extra over OSSC + Audio upgrade.

Ok that's great, thanks. Subscribed.
As far as I understand, the Saturn would still need a mod for audio. I need a digital signal to go into the OSSC, and SCART is analogue.
The set up would be:
Saturn > USB/coax cable > Naim DAC > headphones
I'll do more research on the whole shebang in the meantime.

On the normal OSSC the video and audio goes into the OSSC through the SCART cable from the Saturn. It then outputs the audio from a standard headphone socket, which you can connect to your stereo or plug in headphone. Edit: maybe I'm misunderstanding something about how or why you need a digital signal, but to simply get sound from your Saturn via the OSSC nothing more than a pair of headphones with a long cable, or a cable to link to your stereo is needed.

Thanks Barry.
I need the digital to analogue conversion to happen inside my Naim DAC. Therefore, the audio needs to arrive inside the DAC in digital form. That means via USB or coax cable.
If it goes in via SCART, then the Saturn's internal DAC has already converted the sound from digital to analogue. I'd be hearing the Saturn's inferior DAC, and the Naim would be doing nothing (other than serving as a headphone amp, as it has a headphone jack).
Think of it like those Bose adverts in the 90s. If they played the sound on the advert, all you'd hear is your TV, not the Bose (great marketing btw).
