Another 3 way duel with some great Saturn 2D VS Fighters. Which will it be? Pick your preference and list your reasons in the comments. GALAXY FIGHTGOLDEN AXE: THE DUELULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3

Galaxy Fight isn't a particularly bad game, but then you could say the same for Golden Axe: The Duel, as well. The version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 we Saturn owners received is more an upgrade to MK3 for the PlayStation rather than being based on the actual UMK3, yet it's far superior to the later MK Trilogy (in my opinion, at least). Of the three titles in this comparison, UMK3 wins for me... and yes, it earns a Flawless Victory!

Galaxy fight, had this on AES and it was a poor game, never played the Saturn version though. it's got to be an inferior port, right?
I remember playing Golden axe TD, I enjoyed it, but it was fairly standard as Saturn fighters go...
UMK3, is a good compilation, although I prefer the original iterations. Gets my vote.

I played the heck out of Golden Axe Duel in Sega Flash vol.1 back when i was a kid and finally purchased the game a few months ago. After years of playing 2D fighters in tournaments i must say, Golden Axe Duel is surprisingly good. It's playstyle resembles a lot to Street Fighter 2 (with weapons of course) and i feel it's more of a competitive game than UMK3.

Was never really a fan of Galaxy Fight but I can appreciate why others like it. This was actually a hard choice to make. The Mortal Kombat franchise is one of the best in the fighting games genre and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is the best of its kind on the Saturn. MKT was so dissapointing. What really sells UMK3 for me is the computer AI. Very intelligent but beatable once you expose it's weaknesses. It's always a great feat when you're able to pull of Fatalities and other finishing maneovers. I was mainly a Fatalities and Babalitie's guy with Scorpion as I would remember the commandments for those moves so easily. Great game.
However, by the time I got my Saturn, I was kinda over the MK franchise. As great as UMK3 was it could no longer appeal to me the same way its predecessors did in the 16-bit era. Trying to get back into to franchise now feels very much like a chore for me. The whole concept felt extremley dated by the time it arrived on the Saturn.
Golden Axe: The Duel I still enjoy to this day. Very much a Streetfighter clone but with it's own individuality and enough quirkyness to make it interesting. The graphics are to die for too and one would be mistaken in thinking its running on additional RAM Hardware. I still get a massive kick out of pulling off specials.
But both in my opinion really struggle with their USP's when up against the abundance of some of the Saturns other Fighters but Golden Axe TD has my attention just that little bit more than UMK3. So for that reason my vote goes to Golden Axe: The Duel.

I'm going to swing the vote to a tie (at least when I posted). Never played Galaxy Fight, but I have played the other 2.
I used to love playing Golden Axe on the Sega Genesis (it was on a 6in1 cart my cousin gave me as a kid) and when I heard there was a Golden Axe game on the Saturn I got really excited. Sadly, I figured out The Deul was not a beat em up like the Golden Axe I had played on the Genesis but I still decided to buy Golden Axe the Duel and have enjoyed playing it alot with my friends.
Like sych said the graphics in the game are amazing, and I find some of the characters really memorable.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is a great game, but a fighter I find a little too difficult. Whenever I try to do any of the tournaments I just get destroyed against the AI, and when i play with my friend who enjoys fighting games he just destroys me with fancy moves.
So since I loved the original Golden Axe, and because I am more of a Soulcalibur fan I am going to give my vote to Golden Axe the Duel (though I think that UMK3 is a slightly better game).

Mortal Kombat has never really appealed to me. I feel like it's something that needed to be experienced when it was fresh and not years after the fact. I'll have to go with Golden Axe.

This is an interesting one.
I finally got Galaxy Fight a few weeks ago. Only played it for about 20 minutes. I like the rain effects in the one level I played. Doesnt seem too bad. Is this the prequel to Waku Waku?
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was big because it was a 32 bit exclusive that PlayStation did not get. To many its the best MK out there and at the time the only high end home conversion was the Saturn one. In fact until the Xbox 360 Live version came out.
Golden Axe the Duel I have not spent nearly enough time with. It gets way too much talk from people about not being a beat em up. But it seems like people who accept that its supposed to be a fighter set in the GA universe, they say good things.
Had to vote for UMK3 even though the other 2 I don't have enough play time into.
Could have even thrown Primal Rage into this one as one of my favorites and many say the Saturn version was the best home port.

Galaxy Fight is indeed the prequel to Waku Waku 7. I was thinking of adding Primal Rage but I wasn't convinced anyone would vote for it Having said that, as captainkael pointed out, look what's happening to Galaxy Fight

I feel Galaxy Fight is simply one a lot of people haven't played. Its one of those hidden expensive games in both PAL and NA regions which eliminates a lot of people from even trying it.

If I recall correctly too Carter ( Oho) didn't give Galaxy Fight the most glowing review either. I think overall he gave it a'meh' if memory serves.

This is true. I have replayed the game since my review and if anything, I like it less than my initial review. It is pretty mediocre depending on where in the spectrum you place mediocre. You could say that Golden Axe: The Dull could also be considered pretty mediocre but I had changed my attitude towards reviewing games and tried to find all the positives in whatever game I would review and found there was plenty about the game that I liked. Even though as a whole I only found it it to be slightly above average. I've never played MKT as I don't own it. It's 1 of 22 games I am missing. And unless I win the lotto, I don't ever see that changing now because of responsibility, etc.

The only one of these I played specifically on Saturn is Golden Axe: The Duel. It resembles Street Fighter with swords, though the main draw was using concepts that tie into previous Golden Axe games, such as attacking dwarves for magic potions to fill up your super meter. The super mode itself slowly depletes which makes a small window of opportunity for the actual super move, which seems to encourage memorizing movesets.
I played UMK3 through the "Ultimate Mortal Kombat" release on DS, which I still own the cart for. It looks like a game I could pick up for Saturn and play with a friend, though I don't see a reason to specifically seek it out for solo play in my case.
