Okay enter the 2D Saturn platformers. All have their individual charms about them but which will it be: The Gex or the Earthworm or the Rayman? Pick one and comment below EARTHWORM JIM 2GEXRAYMAN

Rayman is nightmarishly hard and being forced to get 100% completion to beat the game is bullshit, but I still think it's the best out of the lot by far. Nostalgia might play a part, but I'd be hard pressed to name another platformer on the Saturn that feels as expansive as it is. Tons of levels, branching paths, a moveset that's constantly expanding which then increase your mobility and allow you to explore even further, it's a huge game. The game's difficulty swings back and forward between tough but fair and completely unpredictable cheap shots, but the controls are super tight which makes it at least possible. There's a great level of imagination in the game as well with quite a few unique and memorable setpieces, which the Rayman series has always been great for.
Earthworm Jim I actually also love, but I'll also admit that I love it mainly just for it's personality and humour as opposed to the actual gameplay which is, well, just alright if you ask me. Earthworm Jim 2 I also felt was the weaker out of the first two Earthworm Jim games due to the constant genre shifts suddenly throwing entirely new control schemes and mechanics on you out of nowhere with barely any explanation to let you know what you're even doing (Flying King is the worst for this). The things I like and dislike about the game are actually very similar to how I feel about Mr Bones.
Gex, eh, never been a fan of the series. Can't stand the character at all, completely witless and unfunny references is all he has going for him apart from in Gex 3 where they added even less funny innuendos on top of that. Despite that the first game isn't really BAD, but still hardly great thanks to the jerky controls. None of his games are awful, really, Gex 3 is actually pretty decent, but I personally find the series far too unlikeable to care. Might be a bit of bias with me saying that it's the worst game of the lot because of that.

Three great Saturn games as far as I'm concerned.
Gex gets a lot of flack for the annoying, repetative voice samples. I'm with you on this. And some of the level designs are uninspiring. But when the game focuses on traditional 2D platforming, like in the first level, it's a joy to play.
Earthworm Jim 2 is another great 2D platformer. It has a lot of unique ideas and levels. It can be frustrating at points, but overall is a great package.
Rayman is a masterpiece of visual, aural, and gameplay design. It can be hard as nails sometimes, but very rewarding once you're able to overcome challenging levels. Easily the best game of these three.

Another great poll. Well done finding 3 games to duke it out.
IMO, Gex is a bore.
Earthworm Jim and Rayman are tough to choose between. I wanted to go for Rayman, because I prefer the gameplay, but Earthworm Jim is too creative, so I had to go with it.

Not even much of a competition. I´ve never been that into Rayman, but it is a solid (if challenging) game. Gex is mediocre, but not bad - the main issue is that the climbing gimmick is neat, and is hardly ever used in any clever ways. It has so much potential to be an inventive platformer and ends up being average at best.
EWJ2 is fantastic. The difficulty is a little easy, especially compared to the original, and the bosses are a letdown compared to the original, but it´s still a very unique game that tries new things with every level. Aside from the flying level, which sucks massively, the other levels are a joy to play.

I really don't like Gex at all. It's not just the vocal commenatry he makes every now and then, the whole feel of the game just isn't for me. I've only played the original Earthworm Jim back on the Megadrive so can't comment on the Saturn sequel so my vote goes to Rayman.

Voted for Rayman here. Gex I'm also not a fan of. Astal should have taken its place in the poll.

Out of interest has anyone ever completed Rayman and got all the pink dots on all cookie keys? I got so far into the game at one point and then realised that I wasn't even halfway near finished. The game seems HUGE!

I got up to the set of levels with the ink/drawing theme before I gave up in frustration. I think it's the fourth or fifth set of levels.

All three of these are extremely nostalgic for me, just playing them fills me with joy haha. As far as picking which is the best though that's a very hard choice, for now my vote goes to earthworm Jim 2 just for being as offbeat and wacky as it is, although I admit I've never played it on Saturn, but I imagine it's not too far off the SNES iteration

Gotta stick up for GEX though too, as annoying as he is its still a very enjoyable game to play. I love the themed level designs aswell as the sound. I might be looking through rose-tinted glasses here though

Still very close between the Rayman and the Earthworm but at least the Gex has finally got a point.

Earthworm Jim 2 is a Must have over both in my opinion for a few reasons. The first reason is that It's a Sega Saturn Exclusive that is a untimely platformer classic and adds another reason to own the Sega Saturn, The next to last reason is that it's Art style is Unique and chock full of content.

EWJ2. Even if it looks worse than the 16-bit versions, it's still a solid game and has a killer soundtrack.
Gex is okay, just not impressive any single way. Very average game.
Rayman looks splendid but I fell asleep while playing it.
