Okay its Mech war time . And we have 3 very good Saturn mech games doing battle. So which will it be: Ghen War, Gun Griffon or Mech Warrior 2? Pick one and list your reasons why below in the comments. GHEN WARGUNGRIFFONMECH WARRIOR 2

This poll is tough. I just got Ghen War this year and quite like it a lot. Underrated Dark Horse here. Same engine was used for Congo as well.
Mech Warrior 2 I always wanted back in the day. I enjoy the Saturn port, its not bad. But GunGriffon is really a true standout title in its genre.

I've only played Mech Warrior 2 of these three games and I wasn't a big fan of it. Sold it pretty quickly if I remember correctly. Another no vote from me.

I'm with Tempest. I have only played Mech Warrior 2 but I just can't get into it. I bought it when I learned it was the predecessor to MechAssault but not have two sticks really hurts the game in my opinion. Maybe I need to give it another go because I do remember finding it more playable with the Mission Stick, but I was disappointed enough by it to not try other mech games on the Saturn (and I am a huge fan of mech games)

I can get ghen war for 20 euros pal. worth it? Definitley worth it. Ghen War is such a great game and a hiiden gem on the Saturn. My first Mech experience on the Saturn started with Mech Warrior 2. It just never appealed to me at all, I found it boring and uninteresting and based off of that I assumed I would never like Mech games but it was actually Ghen War and Gungriffon that changed that. I feel Ghen War is probably the more enticing for someone that isn't into Mech games and needs a gentle introduction into them. It doesn't have a traditional look of a Mech game either and the weapons aren't as traditional which might be good for some. It's easy to pick up and the difficulty is quite fair. However having said that, if you have a choice between Ghen War and Gungriffon, Gungriffon wins every time. It's just in a different league to all Mech games. Gungriffon is really where the quality is at . It's one of the best games on the Saturn period. It's more traditonal of the Mech genre but the gameplay is just excellent. Also quite easy to pick up and play. If you also happen to see Gungriffon for 20 Euros, I'd get that one over Ghen War, it's not even a close contest, it's just such a masterpiece of a Saturn game. I hear Gungriffon 2 is also good but that one is JPN only. have you got a JPN/US Saturn or a PAL machine with access to 60hz? Reason I say that is because both these games you'd really wanna experience in 60hz as they both weren't optimised. So no guessing where my vote is going. Gungriffon hands down. Easily within the top 15 PAL games for me. Anyone who hasn't played Gungriffon is seriously missing out.

Yeah its hard going up against GunGriffon. As soon as you know GameArts was behind it, certainly the edge is given. They gave us the great Lunar titles that made it over here. Also of course Grandia 1/2

I can get ghen war for 20 euros pal. worth it? Like sych I find Ghen War to be a bit of a hidden gem. Cool very early polygon game. I love the way the enemies look. Cool looking bugs including giant boss sized ones. Reminds me a bit of Starship Troopers. Even has some goofy FMV to go with it. I honestly recommend, if you enjoy this, get the US only release of Congo. The foliage engine is brilliant. Really makes you look like you're in the jungle. Game has a host of other issues however but disc only copies are cheap these days.

I'd be interested to read what is it about that game you find so appealing. I was also interested in getting it at one point but the negative feedback put me off but I could be swayed. Obviously I don't know the game so wouldn't know if the negative feedback is warranted or toatally unjustified but it would be nice to read a positive review about Congo for a change because it does look very interesting.

I played Mech Warrior 2 on PC when it came out and it was amazing! Played it on Saturn and it was meh.
Ghen War I played on Saturn and it was meh too.
GunGriffon I've never played.
I would easily vote for Mech Warrior 2 just for nostalgia, but I kinda feel it's unfair to vote in this one despite my passion for the game.

Only 3 Votes! Surely more people own these games.

GUNGRIFFON KILLS IT HERE...
One of the best non-SEGA PAL titles available. Totally overlooked. It looks, sounds and plays superbly. A ridiculously good game.
I am also in the 'Ghen War is good' camp. It is decent. The terrain deformation due to weapons was cool too.

I got Gungriffon a while back and couldn't understand the love for it. I got a handle on the complex controls before long, but the handling of the mech still never felt right to me. Then I hit the huge difficulty spike that is mission 5 (or maybe mission 4 - it's been a while), and could never get the objectives accomplished quickly enough. It started to feel like I was playing Daytona USA instead of a mech game. I intend to give it a second try one of these days, but the game just doesn't train you in the strategies you need to know to succeed. After mission after mission where you don't even need to put in any effort, suddenly you run into a brick wall and you don't know the way around. On top of that, the graphics are incredibly bland; I looked and looked and couldn't figure out what is supposed to be appealing about them.
I've been wanting to play Ghen War for years, but haven't picked it up yet. Once I do I'll try to remember to place a vote here.
It's interesting reading in vintage magazines about how they reworked Mechwarrior 2 specifically for the Saturn and PlayStation, but somehow the game just doesn't entice me.
Where's AMOK on the list?

Liked Ghen War, but I hate the autosaving/anti-save-scumming measures -- they're just too draconian for a game like this, especially with such evil platforming segments. I know it can be bypassed with a workaround, but I wish they'd just let you play normally in the first place, with conventional save points and the opportunity to practice some of those nasty later levels. It was workable on Inept, but on Intense difficulty it got to be too much and wasn't fun anymore.
