Hello, I'm João.
I’m new in the forum and I came to present some doubts and to listen to some devices from you.
The Sega Saturn was my first gaming console although when I received it at the age of 3 (from my great aunt) in 2000/2001 it was long time discontinued. The reason why I didn’t have a more advanced machine at the time, was due to my mother’s idea that consoles would make people dumb, that stayed until 2008 when my father bought a psp.
The only games that I owned were Daytona USA ( I loved that one), Sega Rally, Dragon Ball Z and some football one. All they stopped working (except dragon ball) due to scratches caused by the horrible designed European case.
I occasionally played the Saturn until 2005 when suddenly it stopped reading CD’s. It stayed in the attic until two years ago when I opened it and I found that the problem was only the cd power cable was disconnection.
Last year I bought the phantom modchip so I could play any games from any region without paying outrageous money.
Yesterday I soldered the extra capacitor (to stop the screen wave of death XD) and I took advantage of the half disassembly to solder two wires to the sw4 ( so I could play the majority of the games in full speed). The problem is that when I join the wires the image goes black only playing sound (I Know that my TV supports 60 Hz), going back normal when disconnected and If I do it once more ( whitout turning it off), the console freezes ( and even the reset button stops working).
If you can, I Would like to ask you if you can identify my mother board version because I think that my Saturn is the parts management version (with no specific mother board but with oval button) and to advise me about least destructive way to do the 60 hz mod in my motherboard.
Thanks
