Ive played both versions, the PAL and NTSC-J versions. Besides the fact the PAL version is missing things and even a proper cart save feature , it does seem a bit more sluggish in some places,
that said its certainly not a night and day situation , if the game is really struggling in the PAL version , its going to struggle in the Japanese version too.

oh Ive seen it , and live Ive said, Ive owned both (eventually sold the PAL version) , and there certainly is a difference (Ive also found it to be a bit less visually glitchy, just an overall more polished product) , Im just saying don't go into it expecting a solid 30fps.
actually I have to say the PAL version doesn't even seem to be fully optimized for 50hz (odd given its a British developer and publisher), you can tell Lara looks noticably wider than either the JPN version , or the PS1/PC versions, and there are still small borders . This may well be part of the reason for the sometimes sluggish feel of the game

PAL version definitely looks more sluggish.

Isn't that just the 50/60hz difference?

Isn't that just the 50/60hz difference? I honestly think its part of it, but then again , given there are things missing from the PAL version (no cart save feature, missing save points, enemies for some reason being bullet sponges , etc), they may well have optimised the engine a bit by then. it would be interesting to compare the PAL version and the NTSC-U version , where we could find out .

I used to have a PAL copy of TR but no longer do.
I love finding these odd regional differences.
I know its well known that the PAL version was rushed and is bugged out and missing features (I hate when companies rush things just to have release dates). And to add to its PAL...
But are the US and JPN versions different? Never read anything about it. Sometimes you can get hints in the release date.

the japanese satakore version was released in 1998, for what it's worth.

Wasn't there a few additional changes made to the Satakore version over the original JPN? I've often heard the JPN Satakore version is the definitive version. Watching that video above it appears there is a noticeable difference between the PAL and JPN version.
bultje112 I look forward to reading your feedback on the game when you finally get round to playing the Satakore version. I've been thinking about trading in my PAL copy for the JPN version for a while now, so I'll be very interested to read your report. Will you be playing it on a JPN or PAL machine? If PAL, do you have a 60hz set up?

If PAL, do you have a 60hz set up? good call regarding the potential changes, I forget sometimes that even reprints like this get additional fixes (VF4 Evo being a good example) I need to set up the Saturn sometime and replay the Japanese version I have (non Satakore) and see how it compares to that video , as I can't tell exactly from memory. that said, given the PAL version wasn't optimised correctly (the PS1 version certainly looks like it was), any 60hz version will be a bit faster just based on that.
