Ok, if you want it to look exactly how it's supposed to look (assuming Sega's original graphics designers bothered to calibrate their monitors correctly too) you can check out the 240p test suite. This includes colour/brightness calibration tools. Sadly not available for Saturn, it is available for Dreamcast, NES, SNES, Megadrive, MegaCD, Wii, Gamecube and PC Engine.

www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sega/saturnI recently got an RGB cable from the above guys. Not sure if it's placebo but it seems the audio on FMV clips sound cleaner? Bunch of FMVs I tested out. Sadly Grandia intro and Biohazard/Resident Evil intro don't seem to like the OSSC. I goofed up a bit on some editing bits, ah well..

the cables from retrogamingcables are of a really good quality, I wouldn't be surprised if you notice a difference even with another RGB cable.
my old Mega Drive 2 cable used to exhibit alot of buzzing sounds (particularly when alot of white or light colours were on the screen), that doesn't happen with their cable, same goes for the Saturn.
now if only they could make some decent component cables for the Xbox and PS2.... the offiicial ones are expensive and the unofficial ones are less than great in alot of cases.

What do you mean?
With the OSSC you're better off using PS2 in RGB mode. In 480p and higher the PS2 switches to sync on green but this is supported by OSSC.

Definitely with Grandia both the opening FMVs that lasts a few minutes each it's just a blank screen, the audio comes across fine but you don't get any picture till the title screen appears or in game starts. I'm guessing I have to play around with the OSSC just for this title.

Never noticed anything like that, I'll give it a go on my Saturn.

Testing a few other games I seems to have problems with 480i games such as dead or alive too since I mostly left everything at default. My tv supports 2x line mode. EDIT Think I got it sorted now. Have to play around with the settings but on default people will have problems.

Grandia FMVs use 480i mode and stretch the video out, for some reason. Maybe being interlaced makes them look smoother on CRTs. I don't know about Resident Evil FMVs, but it could be the same thing.
If the OSSC doesn't work on games that switch between 240p/480i, that's a big problem.

Yes intro to Grandia is in interlace rather than progressive, there's no compatibility problems as far as the OSSC is concerned. What display are you using and do you have interlace set to deinterlace or pass-through on the OSSC?
What did you change exactly? Defaults should work fine.
It's the best device available for them but of course since framerate changes TVs are always going to re-sync so it can't do as well as a CRT.

What did you change exactly? Defaults should work fine. Possibly may have changed 480i Line3X (laced) mode to something..there's too many options I was messing with I can't remember exactly what it was. Also I got an old-ish 50" panny plasma tv

ok unless you're really worried about lag on a game change it to passthrough. Also going more than line double on interlace isn't widely compatible with TVs.

noticed another issue now.. which needs some investigating. I don't know if the Saturn has issues with jailbars but there are some vertical lines that I noticed on some of my pics. Kurosawa's suit below it really shows. Going to reset to the factory settings but I did a lot of messing around with the OSSC. Got it sorted. I was playing around with the sampling phase pics after reverting some settings

Hi there, interesting post, could you help me please?
I want to buy one of this OSSC for my Saturn, PSX/2 (trought PS2 system) and Wii (GameCube, snes, md), Pal all of them since i live in Europe. I have my original scart cable for my Saturn and i want to play it on my Sony Bravia.
Do you recomend this to me? Will i have any issue if i want to record some gameplays using a Avermedia Game Capture HD II?.
It seems to give excellent results in led tv.

For the wii console I use component. scanline strength 37%, line 2x, 480p passthru
I couldn't get a signal for wii using RGB and I suspect I might have to tweak some settings on the ossc for it to work. Saturn and pc engine I have no problems although I had to make some changes to the ossc for sega saturn 480i games.

Not aware of any issues using Wii and RGB, but component gives you 480p which is better anyway.
