Just curious what others use.
I'm currently on a 25" Trinitron, and I'm really torn between what I want to do next.
I need to save space, so my options are: drop to a 19" Trinitron, buy a PVM (like gold dust in the UK) or get an upscaler. I'm going to wait til summer before I actually buy anything though, so I have time. Interested to hear your point of view.

Panasonic CRT. It gives me a gorgeous picture.
Sample footage I captured off the screen ghetto style. It actually looks better than this as the camera doesn't capture the quality accurately. The image is also cropped and tilted because my camera tripod was positioned incorrectly. I get a full unclipped image in reality.

There’s no heretic option - HDTV with no scaler.

There’s no heretic option - HDTV with no scaler. Maybe there is, but the input delay means it's not showing yet

I suppose that would fall under "LCD with other upscaler".

Same here. Not everyone uses upscalers. I also use LCD HDTV with no upscaler.

I use an older Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP LCD with an OSSC . I don't have the space for a bulky CRT, maintaining it and fixing it in case it breaks would be a nightmare.
the 2007FP is nice because its a 4:3 screen with a 1600X1200 resolution . It also looks very good for a monitor thats not new (although it doesn't have HDMI , only VGA , DVI , S-video and Composite). the sound is routed through into some PC speakers which should give better sound than many TVs
the other reason for not using a TV is because I don't game on TVs, my modern gaming is done on PC , and I rarely watch the telly, so it makes little sense for me to invest alot in a great TV.

Yeah you can do perfect 5x 1600x1200 with those monitors. They tend to be a little dated by modern monitor standards (my two Samsung 1600x1200s have terrible colour uniformity for instance) but the scaling really is pixelperfect with OSSC.

thankfully Ultrasharps tend to be pretty good given their target audience, I would say it has better colour than alot of more modern monitors.
I actually have another ASUS monitor thats not the newest either (not as old though) and it doesn't look as good, almost like there is over pixelation compared to the Ultrasharp which looks smooth.
I suppose the only really big flaw is the lag, its at 16ms , which isn't that bad though its not ideal either.
case in point regarding a CRT for me, I used to have a 17 inch Apple Studio Display, which was a CRT monitor with a 1600X1200 res and was essentially a repackaged Diamondtron display, it was great but it ended up failing on me and sadly I didn't have the time or expertise to fix it.

I tend to think people care too much about the Trinitron label. My screen is great, but it's not perfect, and it's only just a little clearer than the Sharp model CRT I had before.
I'm definitely in the market for changing my screen, I'd love to save the space and go LCD + OSSC (in fact my £15 scaler introduces no noticable lag - though i've yet to thoroughly test that), but I hate the idea of not having access to light gun games.

The main reason I keep a CRT isn't just for Saturn. I used my Saturn with a Sony LCD for a while and it was fine - it's my other consoles. The PS2 benefits from it as does my Megadrive, N64, Gamecube, SNES and Atari 2600.
The PS2 on my LCD with component looks great but some games look better on the CRT.
Even the Dreamcast which looks great on my LCD with VGA cable still looks gorgeous on my CRT (I have 2 DCs connected up - one with each TV). The GC, SNES and MD look fine on the LCD but they do look better on the CRT.
The N64 and 2600 really need a CRT - I wouldn't dream of using them on anything else.

Yeh, my NES won't even display on my LCD, I used an N64 at a friends. He had it on his LCD and had it stretched to 16:9!!!

I currently play most of my consoles on a PC monitor through an OSSC.
I do have a nice big Sony Trinitron but it's currently stored out of the way, it was just too big for the small room I have my consoles and PC in. That will likely change though as I'm probably moving house in the next couple of months and hopefully will have a decent sized room to put it in.
