Yesterday my japanese version of biohazard arrived and I had a nice time playing it. Even saving was no problem. But today when i wanted to continue the file was good.
It seems that the internal batttery has died. Nothing unusual for such an old device so far. I think a technical skilled person could exchange the battery with a new on and get it working again. But unfortunately I am not skilled enough to that by myself
So i was lucking for an alternative an found ou that the saturn has some memory extention cards too.
But are they working like the momory cards like other consoles of the era? Like the Playstation Memory card? Or do these cards need the internal battery too be functional?

the Saturn's memory carts don't need a battery like the console itself, they work the same way as other cards of the era. They also have a tonne of space on them which is nice , 8000 blocks as opposed to the internal 500 , unlike with the PS1 or Dreamcast where I have about 4 memory cards each which are almost full , I only have one Saturn cart , and its still got 3000 free blocks.
only thing to note is try and get the official cartridges, the 3rd party ones can be dodgy , and in a few cases, they can mess up the cartridge port (due to the Saturn's cart port being made of mouldy cheese, its best to just put the cart there and leave it unless its necessary)

But unfortunately I am not skilled enough to that by myself You just have to pop open the small door on the back of the console and you can access the battery directly. You don't need technical skills at all, unlike the Sega CD and Dreamcast, the Saturn has an easily accessible battery holder.

zyrobs Oh my bad. Then it was the dreamcast where changing battery is technically quite challening and not the saturn.

Then it was the dreamcast where changing battery is technically quite challening and not the saturn. for the Dreamcast you can get modded controller boards (the battery sits on the board with the connectors) that has the soldered battery replaced with a battery holder similar to a PC. oh and remember that of course not every Saturn game will save on the memory cart, some because they were simply programmed that way (Wipeout 2097 for instance) some others because they use a 1MB or 4MB RAM cart , so obviously have to save internally.

There's only a handful of titles that can only save to the internal ram, though. The only ones I know of are all three Digital Pinball titles and Wipeout 2097.

I waited for like 15 years before buying on of these. after so many corruptions on 4in 1's I couldn't take it anymore. it truly is one of the best saturn purchases I ever did. it works completely different from third party ones, since you can save and load directely from the card while in game and some games can't even be played without it like sim city.
