Well I have a Japanese Saturn VA0 model with a Rhea ODE installed but I want to swap it for the PAL version of the board because it will play games in colour through composite when changing the frequency between 50/60hz
So I'm wondering can a PAL VA0 Motherboard be swapped into a Japanese Sega Saturn Shell also a VA0 model?

Yeah, as long as the board version matches. I have a JP VA0 in a PAL VA0 case right now.

Oh that's good to know I should have no problems then as long as the motherboard I ordered is in working condition

Begs the question though why not just use a RGB cable? Not like they're hard to get hold of?

Begs the question though why not just use a RGB cable? Not like they're hard to get hold of? That's true but the Saturn exclusively uses dithering for transparencies so I do prefer to play using composite or S-video. I have a CRT so RGB doesn't make that much difference to the quality but the dithering annoys me a lot and has done since it started using an RGB cable back in the day. Also I refer you to a link that outline dithering and a video that explains transparencies on the Sega Saturn. All games on the Saturn that used mesh transparencies were made with the composite cable in mind Low Score Boy Saturn In depth youtu.be/f_OchOV_WDgDithering Megadrive retro-sanctuary.com/comparisons%20-%20differing.htmlI know people do sacrifice transparencies for RGB. But on a CRT it's not necessary but I can understand people want to use RGB for the best picture quality on a modern display. But for me the best picture on some consoles is Composite
