I've had EAR for about 5 years and absolutely loved it for about 2.Once I had gotten everything out of it it still got the odd play but I don't think I've played it for about 3 years and I probably won't for another couple of years.I've seen all it has to offer. The game is a great port and is so much better than the taito legends versions, however the price is getting to high for people just discovering it now. I think my copy was about 50 quid and was my most expensive purchase at the time. And this game has an awesome soundtrack by Zuntata especially level 3 after you get out the lift.

Summing up my feelings on Elevator Action Returns, as a game player and a Saturn collector. it's a great Saturn title that's really worth playing on the system and another Saturn game to collect, if that's your thing. short of buying the PCB, the best way to experience it. The amazingly good arcade ports are the only reason the Saturn is my favourite console to play/collect for, that justifies everything, price included. This sort of stuff makes being a gamer/collector enjoyable, for me anyway. Whether you use ROMs on Saturn or have it on a different system, still totally worth playing also.

I hope I enjoy it when I get it. From what I've seen, it looks like exactly my sort of game (although I've only seen bits since I don't want to spoil it).
I got a good deal on it so I went for it, since Saturn games aren't getting any cheaper it seems :/
Thankfully this is probably the most expensive game out of my remaining hitlist for the Saturn.

I love EAR. It's not worth the current insane price it goes for but it's a killer run and gun game that you need to play in whatever form you can.

The game is a great port and is so much better than the taito legends versions. I don't remember any differences in the Saturn version that wasn't present in the PS2 Taito Legends version. What's different and why is the Saturn port better?

I think it was to do with the image being stretched in the PS2 to account for the systems higher resolution. The Saturn port however, is an arcade perfect conversion.

The main differences present in the Taito PS2 port are slowdown, graphical glitches, control delay, and the autofire is a mess with certain weapons. Also it looks miles better on Saturn, it's in the proper ratio and pixel perfect as well as including the original game as a bonus. The Taito PS2 version is playable, I had it and enjoyed it, but it's just not as good as the Saturn version. I haven't played it on the Xbox, but I'm assuming it's the same port.

I thought that was the case. As I don't remember my Saturn version as it bugged me to much too play it often. If it had save points then it would have won more favour with me.

The game is perfectly balanced in terms of the lives and continues it gives you. The secret is not to carelessly die by doing something that results in instant death. No one is going to beat it on the first couple of playthroughs, but it should be doable with half a dozen to a dozen attempts.

No one is going to beat it on the first couple of playthroughs, but it should be doable with half a dozen to a dozen attempts. The amount of lives and continues were never an issue as I never found the game that difficult to begin with. Plus there was always the option to code in infinite continues, infinitie lives, unlock original game e.t.c via the Action Replay cheat codes so difficulty can never be a factor. My issue with the game is it never held my interest long enough to want to complete it in one sitting which is why I wanted saved points. I've completed it maybe twice in the whole 10 year period I owned it and that for me was like pulling teeth. Replaying it was a chore and when a game feel like that then there's no point keeping it around. I'd much prefer all the other Run 'n' gun titles I previously mentioned but again it's all subjective.

It is a game I'd only play once every 2-3 years for a couple of hours. Personally, I think the game is short enough to hold the attention span of most gamers. About Metal Slug, I know I mentioned it on the last page. However, I'm so used to playing the AES version of the game. That going from the AES to the Saturn version just ruins my enjoyment of the game.

About Metal Slug, I know I mentioned it on the last page. However, I'm so used to playing the AES version of the game. That going from the AES to the Saturn version just ruins my enjoyment of the game. I can understand that. I haven't experienced other ports of Metal Slug so maybe my opinion could have differed but my love for the Saturn version is still firmly in tact. Regardless of versions, gameplay wise I enjoy Metal Slug immensely way more than EAR. I think it's just horses for course really. And also I found because I have so much variety on the Saturn when it comes to looking for games to play for short bursts of fun, EAR was seldom a game I gravitated towards. And like I'd rather play other Run 'n' Gun offerings on the Saturn. I don't like to play run 'n' gun games for long periods of time anyway so it helps when there's a save option when you can pick up where you left off. I agree that EAR is short enough to hold my whole attention in one sitting but when you have so much variety patience tolerance is low. Plus the graphics for me aren't particularly nice to look at so that colours my experience in a negative even more.
