I apologise for this not being strictly Saturn related, but I tried to replace my Pokémon Gold battery, but after de-soldering and soldering in a new battery I still lose the save data after I power off my Game Boy. Here's a couple of pictures, I don't know if I need to resolder it or try to fit in a new battery.

Sure you have the battery + and - correct?
Also check your solder connections on both sides of the PCB.
Can't think of anything else.

Yes. that dotted pattern is normally found on the -ve side of those cells plus the shape shape shown in second image would normally suggest that you have it the wrong way around. (only way to know for sure is to use a multimeter though).

I asked someone from another site and they said while I have the -ve said face up. I still have the battery the wrong way round, as it should be what's shown in the following picture. I'll likely need to buy some desoldering wick, then try and solder it again with another fresh battery.

if you apply heat to the solder until it melts one Joint to liquid thoroughly, you could "gently" pry up the cell in in two goes (making sure not to bend the tabs too much).
