Love this thread. Dark Savior is one of my favorite Saturn titles. I never got into collecting the monsters though. What do the monsters do? Is it like a game of pokemon? You get to play as them, some of them like Doc have good moves. There are also sometimes enemies that have weaknesses to specific creatures. The aforementioned Doc can be captured at the beginning of round 1 if Bios(the bear) or Bruno are used against him. I've heard Copper vs Silver guardian also does the same thing. So in my play through, I'm trying every captured opponent against every foe. EDIT: Bios the bear also gets immediate capture chance against Max! Interesting!

Right now, I'm documenting it here. The Bruno thing I mentioned. So Max can capture Mushashi on first chance, the goo version at least. Outside of an average special, Max is a good fighter in general, as his knockback/strong attack is a long range stab that keeps him in place.

Manual errors like those are pretty common. Radiant Silvergun uses different HUD graphics on the back cover, Scorcher used the PC version for the screenshots in the manual, and even Sonic 2 on the Megadrive used an older title screen in the manual.

True, I wonder why the Pig Trio, Booth, Wooth and Footh got cut though? They aren't extremely powerful or plot important. Players would certainly prefer one of them over a second Dunbar.

Great, because I want to relive Dark Savior vicariously.

EDIT: Bios the bear also gets immediate capture chance against Max! Interesting! Interesting indeed. I had no idea there were tricks like that built into the fighting system. I'd already been planning to give this game another run through someday soon, so this'll be something good to try out.

Great, because I want to relive Dark Savior vicariously. Ask if you want advice on using captured units. So I just found out another very interesting capturing secret. In Parallel, one of the opponents, is Joe, a goo zombie. Normally he is not capturable However I've gotten the capture chance to consistently appear if Garien is wielding the Ali Baba sword. It doesn't matter if Garien is the one in combat or not, so long as he has it equipped, anyone in his party can capture Joe. The storyline reason for this is likely due to Joe mistaking Garien for Ali Baba. I'll have there if there are other things like this, so far I haven't found any others(just searched the first parallel).

Is there any benefit to capturing? I've captured a bunch before, but they're generally worse than Garian. I only do it for the minor XP boost

I only do it for the minor XP boost As mentioned earlier in the thread, many bosses have weaknesses to captured units, allowing you to instantly win a fight in round 1. Several bosses also have good movesets.

Fair enough. Most of the bosses can be taken out in round one anyway with Garian, apart from the 3 pigs. But I always skip that fight anyway since losing results in replaying a lot of the level,

But I always skip that fight anyway since losing results in replaying a lot of the level, Its impossible for Garian to take out any opponents in Round 1. He can defeat them in two rounds, but not at the beginning of the first round.

I'm simply intrigued by the mechanics of capturing. The combat always seemed unfinished or an afterthought, so seeing some of the complexity behind captures and what they wanted to go for is really fun for me.

It's true. I didn't take in what you said properly the first time.
OK, that makes sense then. I guess Captures can be useful if you know the correct counters.

I've never had any problem capturing Joe, no matter what I've had equipped, yet I see this claim made quite a lot looking around Dark Savior forums online.
