Hello everyone,
Like many people growing up in the 90s I had no real idea that the Sega Saturn existed, unfortunately!
It was only recently when searching (far, wide and desperately I may add) for a Dreamcast that I stumbled across a local listing for a Sega Saturn. So then I started googling deep on the Saturn and ended up purchasing it while still scurrying to find a Dreamcast.
Once home in my hot little hands I thought to myself, how did I miss this, how did this past me by, the old whats ifs we all share went off. I've never ever liked the PlayStation and why anyone does is beyond me, the giggly pixels and general stank ugliness of it's game on top of it's marketing at the time still bring up whatever was my last meal to the back of my throat. I was a N64 fanboy during that era. I own a PlayStation 4 but it sits collecting dust while I secretly hate its existence in my house but The Last Guardian is really good.
Although the Sega Saturn I bought second hand recently has been nothing but a tease, constant issues with the disc drive, tweaking it's insides to get it to read a disc only to have it seemingly over heat causing graphical issues has not stopped my newly developed enthusiasm for the system, if only to get the thing to work.
Dreamcast? Meh, oh I ended up getting one but it sits on the shelf only to receive abuse I hurl at it for killing Sega and what the Saturn should have been. (I kid, it plays a lot of games of the era the best, eg Tony Hawks, Podracer)
Excuse me while I go back to debugging the hardware issues with my pre-loved Saturn in the attempt to enjoys its software, that copy of Robotica isn't going to play itself, it's in near mint condition for some reason

That is one of my all time fav games and I find people don't talk about it much. Love the n64 version, though I can't deny that DC version is mint and the controller stick is so responsive (had the n64 one first). Sorry to focus on the smallest part of your story Some Saturns can be quite finicky but once you get it working it is so worth it.

Haha, yeah Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (aka Podracer) is a great game. I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone that says otherwise. They may say dated or they didn't like it but for what it is, it's great! I remember renting the N64 version (which I now own along with Rogue Squadron) from the local video store numerous times - hoping they would put it up for sale. But as soon as I played the Dreamcast version I noticed it felt silky smooth and responsive.
The Sega Saturn introduced me to Hi-Octane which is fantastic, loving that game at the moment (despite it's frame rate of half a snails pace). Also picked up the PlayStation version which is - much to my disgust - better (looks much better, has a slightly better frame rate) but there's also a PC version which I'll snag eventually.
Another related game I'm not sure how I feel about is Cyber Speedway. I don't know if it's quirky and odd or just bad.

Ya I think most people like it, but I don't see it mentioned often. All the star wars games on N64 are ace. Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo are sweet flying games, Shadow of the Empire is a sweet fps/flyer which has some chunky parts, but some unreal parts as well and podracer is just a great racer. For as much as I love podracer I have never gotten into any other similar games.
You ever play the GBC version of podracer? Its pretty bad haha.

Have the Ep1.Racer for DC too. I also have a PS2 version which seems to be an upgrade but no memory of playing it.
My all time love re futuristic racers remains F-Zero - in particular X on N64.
Wipeout on Saturn was pretty good from what I remember - but I believe the sequel is better. Have 2097 for PS1 - actually have 2 copies, 2 PS1s and the link cable but of course have never set it up to try it out!
Wipeout 3SE was a PAL exclusive on PS1 and it's really nice. It has a linkup mode too - so will probably pick up a 2nd copy of that if I ever see it about. Also have 2 copies of R4 - and 2 of those twisty NegCon controllers. Typing this is making me want to set it up and try it out!!!!

I will be real, I found it to be a huge letdown. Way too much focus on killing the other racers, and the boost mechanics were just dumb. I have Wipeout on the Saturn but find it extremely difficult. F Zeros are also hard, but I find at least accessible to new players. Wipeout when I first played made me feel like I hadn't spent over a decade mastering podracer

That one didn't seem great when I played it for a few minutes. Rogue Squadron is amazing, that and Podracer are currently getting some more play time for sure. I still need to pick up Shadow, but I rented it plenty of times... 20 years ago, O M G Have the Ep1.Racer for DC too. I'll certainly go back to it soon but back in the day I just couldn't get it to "click". I'm definitely going to pick up Wipeout for Saturn as soon as possible. Do you know if the framerate is any good?

First off sorry to hear you are still having issues getting your Saturn working. It will be worth it!
I don't recall any framerate issues in wipeout but didn't get far. I think there are some good comparisons of the Saturn and PSX version on Youtube.
Battle for Naboo is good, but insanely difficult at parts. Has slightly worse graphics than rogue squadron but is a quite solid game once you figure it out. The forced bomber missions really bog it down because it is so slow, but I had a blast with it, and its so satisfying to complete it. Rogue Squadron is superior for sure though.

Yeah it's being a big pain but I've ordered the new caps for it. The PSU seems to be on it's way out as well as I've had some wavy lines popup.
I ordered Wipeout for the Saturn, hopefully I can play it at some stage. Meanwhile I picked it up on PS1 and N64, the PS1 seemed way more difficult to control but from my understanding the N64 version is not exactly the same game.
Started eyeing off Battle for Naboo, some of the later sections look really fun. Managed to pick up Shadows of the Empire for super cheap, man o man that first mission is fun. Also picked up "Rogue Squadron 2" for gamecube for ridiculously low price. It's playable on the Wii but need a gamecube controller (I don't have a Gamecube).
I'll probably dig into the Star Wars games on N64 while I wait for the Saturn parts to arrive (n64 expansion pak decided to scare me into thinking my n63 kicked the bucket but no, it just needed a clean). Hasn't stopped me buying games for it. Has anyone played Scorcher for the Saturn?

Rogue Squadron 2 is amazing, and then the third is even better (pro tip, the 2nd game is included as a coop mode on the 3rd ) And ya the end of battle for Naboo, while tough as hell at some points are some of the best levels. Are you talking the Battle of Hoth Mission in Shadows? I love that mission its amazingly fun. Some of the later levels in that game are awful too. If you get stuck let me know I recall a thread about scorcher somewhere on these boards.
