Is your widescreen TV an HDTV? If so it simply won't work. This is because the lightgun can not work with different refresh rate. This is why Namco had to make a "Guncon 3" for the PS3...

Actually that depends on what kind of HDTV it is, if it is one of the rare CRTs that multi-scan then it might be possible.
If it is a 100Hz CRT, Flat Panel or LCD, then the gun is still using the timing of either 50Hz/60Hz and it wont work. ;(

For the sake of reconfirming...Because I went through the same thing. Light guns will not work on any flat screen. I have an Hd Projection screen, and a regular flat screen and neither work. I almost broke the light gun trying to get it to calibrate. But alas when I found out what the problem was I hooked it up to my 19 inch old tv it it works fine...Now my only problem is my Virtua Cop 2 doesn't work But part one works fine, so it is what it is.

This is the reason I have a big 32" Sony Trinitron for all my retro gaming, I'm a big fan of light gun games, especially the Lethal Enforcers and Virtua Cop Series.

Flat Panel They will work on a "Flat Screen" as you can get Flat-screened cathodes I think for future preservation's sake, we should perhaps see if it is possible to build a Saturn lightgun that works with Flat Panels.

CRT's have their disadvantages, it is really a case of personal preference.
Flat panels always have perfect geometry (as they are fixed pixel), don't suffer from "breathing" (The expansion and contraction of the image witnessed on CRTs).
Some people prefer the adaptive resolution of CRTs, others the perfect geometry of Flat Panels.
I personally could care less (There are perfectly acceptable upscalers out there for Flat Panels, and CRTs with minimal geometry issues).
Although if you're after quality you'd probably be better off buying the industrial version of a TV, Industrial display sets actually cost the same as their Home counterparts most of the time
For example, every Panasonic TV set has an Industrial Display equivelant, which have a wider array of inputs. They don't have TV tuners built in, but that can be solved simply by plugging in a free view box if you really want to watch TV (And let's face it, that's what bit torrent is for).

My PAL lightgun is buggered, the trigger has gone, the response just isn't there anymore, might take it apart to see what the problem is. I think it's goosed though, maybe I'll treat myself to a new black one, yellow trigger version. I fancy some VIRTUA COP tm action...........

The build quality of the PAL guns compared to the JAP ones is terrible, best thing you could do is get yourself a JAP gun, plus being black they look better with your PAL console
