As you have since replaced the laser, try putting the laser pot in whatever position where the unit reads CDs the best, and try adjusting the tray again. When you pull the tray off, make sure you pull straight upwards only, if you pull at an angle you may bend the motor peg. If the motor peg is bent, the CDs won't stay level while spinning, and that too can cause the pickup to be unable to read anything (since the disc is constantly moving up/down as it rotates due to the bent motor).

I tried all of those. Because nothing seems to work. I did order a replacement CD unit. This seller says it's working but is selling it because he got a Phoebee. So this should be here early next week. If that doesn't work then I will have to start out fresh. At least I should have enough good parts and knowledge on what to do with them from Zyrobs to frankenstein a console together if I have to replace it.

So it was something on the CD Drive board. I installed a new (used) CD drive and it all works with the original PSU. So now I have a new laser and an extra PSU which both work and my old laser which may still be good for spare parts in the future. Thank you so much for helping me solve this problem.

I stumbled across this topic whilst searching reasons for my own Sega Saturn resetting issues - I have a modded AR card allowing for use of CD-Rs to which my issue is to do with.... You guessed it! Albert Odyssey. I have found so far this is the only game that seems to reset my machine after a few hours of play which is infuriating on a game that doesn't quick save. Anyway, mine is a 1995 Japanese machine so assuming my caps are on their last legs.
