Switchless does sound nice and clever but I'd rather have a proper switch. You rarely have it at 50Hz anyhow.
I only use the switch on the SNES to get around the region check some games have that require you to power up at 50Hz and then flick to 60 once the startup screen appears.

You should be glad they aren't 50Hz. The launch Grey models were a pain, not sure now. There were some games that only came out in Pal land and were actually quite good. Like Discworld 2 and Jonah Lomu Rugby and which despite what some say, don't play correctly at 60 Hz. Also back in the 90's it was nice to actually buy games from your local shop or the likes of gameplay to save money, which the big reason I looked to have a double switch fitted but it couldn't be done and just got a Pal Mark 1 Saturn and had that double switched fitted no issues.

I can think of literally no advantage whatsoever to having a physical switch rather than the switchless mod, other than perhaps it's a bit cheaper or easier if you're DIYing? For something you only use once in a blue moon I guess saving the money is a viable concern. Personally I wouldn't want a switch tucked awkwardly away in the MPEG cart slot especially with my Saturn up on a shelf lol.
As for it being more reliable, well, the switchless is one simple pic chip, I've not seen any evidence that's not reliable, maybe Zyrobs has?
The region free BIOS on the other hand is a lot harder to fit but worth it I think if you want the ultimate Saturn and a LOT nicer than either the old switchless region free where you had to cycle through all the regions etc on the LED, or even worse double physical switches.
This Isn't necessary on modern SuperCIC boards which are entirely switchless and work with 100% of games. Borti's latest one even has DFO built in to fix the 60hz off spec issue, if you can get hold of one what with all the component shortages right now.
Discworld 2 I guess you could play easily on any PC now but I remember I had a friend absolutely gushed about Jonah Lomu Rugby, he thought it was amazing. If you like Rugby that's definitely one to check out. Not sure how the Saturn version compares to the PS1 version though?

As for it being more reliable, well, the switchless is one simple pic chip, I've not seen any evidence that's not reliable, maybe Zyrobs has? I've seen significantly more threads about problems with the switchless mod, and you have to use a PIC chip which aren't necessarily the most stable (and have to be pre-programmed), plus solder half a dozen cables. More stuff to connect = more chances something breaks. The switch is literally just 1 switch installed to a pre-made slot on half the PAL Saturns, and just 2 cables plus a switch and maybe some glue on the other half (maybe a resistor if you are fancy and want to play it safe). The region free BIOS on the other hand is a lot harder to fit Nah, you just need a heat gun. It'll pop the old chip right off with nearly zero effort. The model 1s with the glued chips can be annoying, though. Fitting in the new chip is super easy, just solder two corners so it stays in place and then drag the iron on the rest of the pins. Discworld 2 and Jonah Lomu Rugby Discworld 2 I guess you could play easily on any PC now but I remember I had a friend absolutely gushed about Jonah Lomu Rugby, he thought it was amazing. If you like Rugby that's definitely one to check out. Not sure how the Saturn version compares to the PS1 version though?[/quote] Maybe he wants to play those on his Saturn, not PC or PS1?

Lol you were the one arguing there was no point in 50hz modding a 60hz console.

With a PC you could play almost any game better than a Saturn or PS these days. I don't think that applies to people who are switches their system to get the old true experience . Jonah is like the Rugby version of Sensible just perfect controls and playability. The Saturn version doesn't look as good as the PS but wins out for control and the better button placement. The issues is when on the Saturn played at 60hz you get more slowdown, especially with weather effects. Its there at 50Hz but nowhere near as bad. World League Soccer 98 is another gem of a game that only came for the Saturn in Pal and while you can play in 60 Hz. The freezes at points and the 3D map isn't displayed right, maybe some are looking to get Tomb Raider in English on the Saturn and the Pal version is cheaper but you get issues at 60 Hz. America Saturn stuff is just going for crazy money at the moment Plus if you're looking to collect games, you never know and get luck to see someone selling Pal stuff quite cheap in a car boot sale or what not. I can understand why some will want a 50/60 Hz Saturn

Sure some do it for the 100% authentic experience but I'd argue that the Saturn still has loads of good exclusives. I would always look to play the best version of any game and no way is the Saturn coming out of my setup. If you were thinking emulators, well they are great and all but have their issues too.
It's always nice to have options and even if you're buying a PAL game simply for your collection it's always nice to have the option to give it a test play, even if only intend to play briefly.

I agree its always nice to have every avenue open to you for whatever system you love and cheeriest the most, nothing beats the real hardware more so when it comes to some of the different gamepads for the various systems. And you also never know when you might see a Pal game going for cheap.
