I received Shin Shinobi Den in the post today and was quite eager to get playing. I'm using it with a mk2 Saturn and Action Replay cart.
Problem is, it won't progress further than starting to load the very first screen after the FMV at the start.
The FMV plays fine, finishes, then the 'press start' screen starts to load then freezes. The CD is still spinning in the tray (I have the lid switch doctored for swap trick enabling) but nothing else is happening.
I downloaded a 'try-before-you-buy' version this afternoon (I own the original) but it does the same.
Are there any known issues with this game on a PAL machine?

Are you running it in 50Hz?
I assume if you were handy enough to solder the mid switch shut you also were able to solder a switch to the Video chip pins?

Dunno but I searched other sites and there was also someone that had a problem with Shinobi like you do. Maybe it's somehow related to the additional 1mb/4mb ram but i doubt it...

If his saturn is not switched to 60Hz, that causes catastrophe on most games, and on the games it doesn't, causes serious video/audio sync problems.
The mod is very simple, just lift one of the pins (I cant remember which one, although one of my contacts knows it) on the video chip, and install a switch, to switch the pin between Ground and 5 Volts

Rossi doesn't have a chipped or jap saturn so he will be running it on a PAL one!

Rossi doesn't have a chipped or jap saturn so he will be running it on a PAL one! Just some technical clarification here for anyone who gets confused: Chipping a Saturn does not make it run in 60Hz A switch is required to switch the video mode select pin of the Video chip

we're sorted, now.
I plugged the standard wired pad in and Shin Shinobi Den runs just fine. (with the AR cart)
Seems it doesn't want to run with the wireless pads in.
Bizarre!

That is really weird but it makes me glad that I view wireless game controllers as the gaming equivalent of Satan, as I'll never have that particular problem.

Play with wireless pads is possible if you boot the game with the wired pad in, pause it, change back to wireless and unpause.
Just one of those things, I suppose.
