Growing up with a Mega Drive, I always wanted a Saturn when I was younger, but my parents never get me one. All these years later, I finally caved in and decided to buy one myself. I bought a US model, but I'm living in Australia, and I understand that I need a step down converter. Has anyone here had experience playing a Saturn with a step down converter? They seem to vary hugely in price, so would anyone be able to tell me of possibly the cheapest, but still reliable, option? Thanks, I can't wait to start enjoying this marvellous console.

It is indeed...
The stepdown converter I ran my JAP Saturns on was around £10 and I experienced no issues with it at all.
How cheap are Saturns down in AUS? it may just be worth picking up an AUS Saturn, no AUS games will run o that US unit without modification or an Action Replay cart anyway so you need to factor that price in too.

Welcome to the forum,
Stepdown transformers are releatively easy to find, IIRC the one I've got cost me under £10 and will handle most games consoles easily, I think it handles 45 watts but I could be wrong.
Mick unless an Aus Saturn is cheaper than an AR I don't really see the point in getting one since he's already got a US one. I'd say that the AR is the best option anyway as it'll do everything you need a cart to except the Japanese ROM cart games.

So you're able to run the JAP Saturn for extended periods of time with no problems? Would you be able to give me a link to the converter you use? I also picked up an Action Replay cart, so I think the best option would be to stick with the US console.
edit: So nick you are using at 45W one? If you could verify that for me it would be great!

Do you have a local general electronics store? you should be able to find one in there, it'll probably be sold as a AUS-US voltage converter or something similar.
EDIT: Yeah it is 45 watts, I use it to power my PC Engine but I've seen them sold for all import consoles.

Hello, welcome to the forums. I bought my Stepdown convertor quite cheap and had no issues at all. I only once tried it with an US Gamecube and it started to smoke... -_-;

That ebay one does look dodgy, the one from Jaycar looks like it'll do the job but it is expensive.

Imho there's nothing wrong with at least trying a very cheap one. Mine was cheap as well and even had a fuse in it. Just try to have a look at it whilst playing. Test it for a week and always have a eye on it. You don't see it fast enough, if it burns, when you put it behind your TV.

Howdy.
Enjoy the start of your saturn adventure!
(That Ebay one does look a bit dodgy..more for shavers/hairdryers imo. I always used one's with a distinct fused plug on them. Now I just have one beast big box mofo of a stepdown to cover all my consoles...the FM Towns II melted one of my lesser ones lol)
