I just got Resident Evil borrowed from a friend. I know that when I was a kid and the game was released I couldnt play it, because I got scared about the zombie thing. Today I tried to play it and I have to admit that I couldn't like the game less, clumsy controlls, stupid camera angels, bad actors and bad voice acting. I know that when the game was released it was probably a big deal but I can't find it playable anymore. What do you guys think?

Resident Evil 4 kind of took it to a level where they actually created a sense of fear, the original games so desperately want to scare you but fail so badly at it, it ends up feeling like you are taking part in a Uwe Boll film...

I don't think so, it had some tense moments, particularly when you run out of bullets and there's this crazy mob after you including a guy with a chainsaw but I don't remember anything scary... I wish Silent Hill was released for Saturn, why Konami didn't give a solitary shit about Saturn anyway?

I like RE1, the ammo and saves are nicely limited. You couldn't just blast everything to death (RE4). Though 2 is still my favorite.

Well I think that Silent Hill and Resident Evil are trying to create very different types of fear. Silent Hill wants to go after the fear of making you feel uneasy through mind-games and suggestion where as Resident Evil is going after the much more directly physical approach of trying to shock the player (but not doing a very good job of it). Silent Hill also has the advantage that, a disturbing thought will always be disturbing, even in 10 years time. Where as once you have been "surprised" by resident evil more than once, the surprise ages and becomes less surprising.

The first Resi game is superb IMO, a real challenge, wondefully awful dialogue, I love it, and all the others in the main series.

Yes awful dialogue. And the movies, seems like a cheap tv show from the 80s.

Don't forget though it was all done with next to no budget, every cut scene at the time was of similar 'quality'.
