Hi, I'm new to all this modding business but will be shortly looking to to get a pal saturn modded for all regions and 50/60hz. (prob by console passion)
Just wondering if there is any benefit of having one saturn or the other? if one is more reliable that the other! I've heard some people say that the MK1 is more reliable!
What are your thoughts?
Cheers
Andy

MK1's are more reliable in my opinion. It's the cheaper made MK2's that always seem to break down. MK1's also look cooler to me.

Mk1's in my experience are more reliable, however Mk2's are a little easier to mod.

Mod as in chip, the region mod for both versions is pretty much the same. And on many Model 1's the jumpers are all on the same are of the motherboard - but on quite a lot of model 2s they are scattered randomly across both sides Although the disc-lid switch on many Model 1s wears out more quickly than model 2's, it's simple enough to fix though.

I'd also throw another vote in for the mk1. If you open both up and look at them next to each other, it becomes obvious that mk2's are built with cost-cutting measures in mind.
That said, the #1 thing that fails for either one of the systems seems to be the laser eye, and that doesn't really seem to matter whether it's from a mk1 or a mk2 system.
