Thanks for all the write-up here. I haven't played a Saturn game since I made it through the epic SHINING THE HOLY ARK, but my next mission is definitely the Working Designs games. I was going to do Shining Wisdom, even though I hear it is ass, but ALBERT might have just moved up the queue. I hope I get some extra time to play it. November, hopefully!

Of all the WD's Saturn games, I'd say Dragon Force is the best, though MKR is my favorite. Some people love Iron Strom, great game, but not my taste.

Dragon Force is the best, especially among Saturn games.
A real solid contender is Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice(part of Generations). It was WD's last game, on the PS2.

Growlanser II was a big disappointment. The original Growlanser was so much better. G2 is still decent though, even Career Softs' low budget stuff is still quite solid. Though we'll never see the likes of Growlanser, and Langrisser IV again I'm afraid.

So we probably won't get the sixth or the PSP remake of 1.

Actually I quite enjoyed the 5th, the story is really good, if you play the 6th. They are 2 halfs to the same game. As a big fan of the developers I'd order them as: G1>G4>G6>G5>G3>G2, but that's just me.

As far as RPG's go I really enjoyed Grandia III up until about half way through disc II where the story just kind of faded away and died... The battle system is much improved from the original but sadly I don't take enough pleasure in the boring grind that is lvl'ing up to play for that alone - which is exactly what seems to be happening in Grandia III Disc 2.
If I wanted Pokemon Stadium I would have bought it! Gawd!

I've never played a strategy RPG, so I've yet to tackle Dragon Force or Shining Force III on the system. I'm looking forward to the day when I can do both. I thought the best way to break into the genre would be to start with the original Shining Force on the Genesis - so I'm just trying to find a cheap enough copy right now. Why is Rayearth your favorite, deadite?

Why is Rayearth your favorite, deadite? I like Rayearth a lot because it's easy and fun. WD's had a lot of fun with the translation, always good for laughs. For getting into strategy RPGs, Dragon Force and Shining Force are completely different type of games. To be honest, there isn't much real strategy at all in DF. Game has lots of options, that don't really do anything. Just get a large army of Dragons and almost nothing can stop you... Shining Force is more of a "traditional SRPG". They are decent games, but a bit too boring to me. In this category I far prefer the Black/Matrix games. Just a lot more fun to play. But the absolute king of SRPGs is Langrisser. Very easy to play, but it takes years to really master. Even the original Genesis game has better AI then most SRPGs made today. All are great games, and Langrisser IV is certainly the best. I've been searching for years to find a game that can compete with it, but there's been nothing yet. I've beaten LIV propably 10+times, but it's still a challenging and rewarding game! ;D
