Hopefully tonight I will have my Saturn chipped (if the mod board arrives lol) and I was wondering if there were/ are any homebrew Saturn games?
I presume once the console is chipped you can download any homebrew games and play them?
I have heard about Police Officer Smith, but that isnt released so just wondering if there were any others at all?

I've been curious as to whether or not it would be possible to port a more modern software video codec to the Saturn to get really nice quality FMVs for the heck of it.

It really depends on your view of really nice quality. I have some vcds and the quality isin't really nice but better than your average FMV. It's still funny to pop in one of the Star Wars Trilogy VCDs I have in the Saturn right before a friend comes over. The look on their face is priceless once they realize I was using the Saturn to watch a movie ;D But then I have to explain what a VCD is and the fact that a regular stock Saturn can't play them. VCDs were barely a blip on the radar in the States.

For homebrew stuff get your self moded xBox. (soft or hard moded, both will work)
To softmode my xBox took me 5 bucks for memory card and needed game (splinter cell), ~50 bucks for 320GB HD that I placed later in it and took me about an hour to do everything (softmode xBox, backup all drives, prepare disk for new HD, install it on my PC, replace HD in xBox and reinstall softmode and finally install XBMC)
But now I have homebrew/emulation heaven and some xBox titles are really worth trying.

I was just wondering if it would be possible for someone to hack an extra character into an iso of sonic r , or tweak the current characters to look different . honestly i would like to see shadow the hedgehog as an extra character or a character replacement hack for the saturn version of sonic r. also would it be possible for someone to port sonic the fights the arcade rom to the sega saturn?

yea. you better go before things get cereal Nah nah I was joking. I just despise Shadow. I feel like he destroyed the Sonic name and opened the door to the countless retarded recolours and stale and annoying characters. Last thing I need to see is Shadow in a time when Sonic was still awesome. Try SonicRetro.org . Someone there might be willing to try. Tons of ROM hackers there interested in altering Sonic games.

I've seen a few palette and texture hacks for the PC version of Sonic R over the years, but to my knowledge never a full change in polygonal models to allow new characters or tracks - now that would be a dream come true, especially if these could be ported somehow to the various console editions (if that's even technically possible)! Even a modification to change the Saturn background of Resort Island to its prototype sunset would be welcome, along with the ability to race at different times of the day. However, I fear including the additional weather effects may prove too difficult to implement...

Hacking some textures to make the sonic character look like shadow is one thing, introducing additional 3D models and environments isn't even cloud cookoo land, you've driven past to visit their neighbours.
I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying the ammount of work involved is almost insurmountable, and I really feel the end would hardly justify the means.
It's a damn site more complicated than messing around with a few sprites.
