^ Hey dialtone (Happy holidays by the way!!). Firstly, the Rom cartridge that comes with Kof'95 is for use with that specific game ONLY, so you won't be able to use it for any other games. Secondly, the RAM card pictured is fine (you'll find exactly the same one in the RAM pack version of the game). However, I'd recommend getting yourself a 4-in-1 action replay instead, as you'll be able to use this with every game that requires an additional RAM cartridge (many Capcom titles use the 4Mb RAM instead), that way you'll never need to buy another (and the colour will match your system if you have a gray model too - NICE). Anyway, congratulations on your purchase. I've had Waku Waku 7 for a long time now and it's a great laugh to play, especially with 2 players!!

Yes, Kof'95 and Ultraman use actual ROM carts. They contain actual data, not RAM. For kof'95, I believe it stores the backgrounds.

I didn't even knew this game until she gave it to me. She knows I'm into 2d fighting games and did a little bit of research to find one that I did not have. I've watched some videos on youtube and the game appears to look great: cool animated sprites, colorful and very detailed backgrounds. Can't wait to try it !

Not to go off-topic, but is it possible to play the Japanese King of Fighters games on a PAL Saturn (without hacking)? I use an Action Replay for imports, but I would quite like to have the King of Fighters games for my Saturn.

Your girlfriend has no idea what kind of gem she slipped into your hands. Myself, I regard Waku Waku 7 as one of my top three favourite games ever. It's very hard to not like WW7. Basically, it's simple enough for beginners, and has enough to make the advanced fighter players feel at home with it's own innovations. I don't really care for fighting games, but I can play this one all day, all week, all month. Sit there and just play it! There are no bad characters either. They're ALL fun to play! The game is even better if you understand Japanese since the story is actually pretty fun/a parody of many other things that will surely make you chuckle at how silly and unserious the game is. Seriously. Awesome game. Your girlfriend really picked it out well. You're in for a treat! pocketpocket: Without hacking? No.

^ pocketim - If you want to give Kof a try, then why not get yourself a copy of Kof '96 or better still '97, both work fine with an Action Replay 4-in-1 cart. ONLY Kof '95 requires it's own dedicated cartridge. I'm a big fan of the King of Fighters series on the Saturn and I've enjoyed all of them, they offer a worthy challenge and are different enough from Capcom's roster of fighters to be enjoyed in their own right. There's a very wide selection of fighters to choose from in each title too - although I tend to stick to my old 'tried and tested' favorites in each one. If you've never had the chance to play any of these games and you're a 2D fighting fan I thoroughly recommend them. Be warned though, the computer A.I. is CHEAP!! Getting back to Waku Waku 7, as I said before this title is a great laugh, so I definitely agree with King Yart in the 'simple' and 'fun' comments above. Just you wait until you reach the final boss dialtone. lol!!

Saturn Waku 7 is a poor port to be honest, it just makes one hungry for the real version.
As for KoF, '96 is still my favorite, best music, and best boss in the entire series in my opinion.

I must admit I have no idea regarding the quality of the Waku Waku 7 compared to the Neo Neo original. It's certainly an enjoyable fighter, but damn, those backgrounds are so blocky - they look like they're made out of lego!! Also, as a matter of interest superdeadite, do you have a copy of Astra Superstars? I've read a few reviews, but I'd like someone else's opinion, as most of them seem more concerned about the graphics than anything else. Is it a worthwhile investment or should I save my hard earned cash for something else (as this seems to be VERY expensive at the moment)? More importantly, how does it play? Will it end up back in it's case after a few days? * Also in reply to dialtone's earlier post, neither Kof '95 OR Ultraman - Hikaei no Kyojin, will work without their dedicated ROM carts. So unless you have either a Japanese system or a modded Saturn you won't be able to play them. As the ever wise superdeadite pointed out above, both carts already contain game data for each individual title. So Action Replays etc. are completely useless for both of them.

Saturn Waku 7 is a poor port to be honest, it just makes one hungry for the real version. I see it as a suitable supplement for those who don't own a Neo Geo or want to spend an obscene amount of cash. If he hasn't played the original, he should be fine.

Yes, the Saturn Waku's backgrounds are badly scaled. They don't look like that on a Neo, Neo also doesn't have the awful slowdown. Playable yes, but the Neo MVS cart only costs about $60 and is way better. (About $250 for the AES cart though) Astra Superstars is a hard game to judge. The game is very fast and wonderful graphics. The gameplay though is... In truth Astra is a lot more fun to watch then actually play. Seeing 2 players go at looks amazing, but actually playing it gets old quick. It's basically dial-a-combo but, you have to do the character positioning manually. It's really easy to mash buttons, do a 50+ hit combo, and not even touch your opponent. Basically one of the those games, where you never really know what your doing. It uses 6 buttons like a Capcom fighter, but what they do changes on positioning, and since your flying, it's very messy. As a silly, casual, party game. It can be really fun. But otherwise...I don't know.

Thanks for the heads-up superdeadite. As I said before, everyone seems to concentrate on Astra Superstars looks rather than actual gameplay. It's nice to hear an unbiased opinion. I think I'll stick with my other alternatives to the usual fare for the time being (Asuka 120% and Sokko Seitokai). At least, until I can get hold of a respectably priced copy. Cheers!!

I've seen a screenshot comparison between the Neo Geo and the Saturn version, and the backgrounds are really blocky. You can't even read the signs and billboards placed over the scenery.
Anyway, picking up a Neo Geo is not one of my priorities on my game collecting quest (would prefer to see my money spent elsewhere (Saturn games perhaps) than in $250 carts) so I'll stick with the Saturn version.
I've already ordered the RAM expansion cart, so in a week I'll be finally playing waku waku 7.
