Heya guys, Today, I've decided to open the battery slot on my HiSaturn, after a whole year of careless ownership, and lo, I find a VCD card in there! Nothing I recognize, though. It's supposed to be a Hitachi card given that it's a HiSaturn, but it has no Hitachi, SEGA, or Victor markings. WTF is it?

Okay, upon finding this out, I've decided to open the system and check for anything else I don't know about... I think I found a modchip installed XD XD XD

take a picture of it, but it is probably a bootleg VCD cards. A LOT of them have been made for the China/Asia market (I own myself maybe 20-30 of them).

Yea I have quite a few of those cheap nasty VCD cards myself, many of which don't work.
Be interesting to see a picture all the same...

On a side note: This Saturn has a fantastically functioning modchip. And is there any reason why the backup loads FASTER than the pressed disc? The hell is going on? XD
The guy selling it didn't know wtf he was selling XD

Well a modded console always boots faster then a stock. Simply because the modchip sends the copy right clearance codes instantly. Without a modchip, the laser has to move to the edge of the cd and actually read the data which naturally takes longer.

The guy selling it didn't know wtf he was selling XD something that happens sometimes. I already bought maybe 3 or 4 saturn in the past with a modchip installed in it (from the UK, JPN, ASIA) and the sellers didn't know anything about it That's always a great find I will try to take a picture of my vcd cards, but I need to check how my new camera works before

I have the official Japanese Sega one myself. Is there any real noticeable quality difference between the official ones?

One of the cheap ones I have with no label on plays VCDs with very noticeable scanlines across the picture, I dont remember any of the others having noticeably worse quality, but it's been a good long while since I tested any of them.

I can only say they have the same bioses as official ones (Sega and Victor bioses). I didn't test them myself to check the quality of the videos.

fake, not, but asian bootlegs, yes. Asia was the palce where VCD goes pretty well, so the bootlegs VCD cards.
