I have a few of those somewhere in boxes as I moved recently and haven't unpacked 100% -- if no one else steps up in a short timespan, give me a shout. I'll send you one for the cost of postage (Prob a couple bucks or so, unless you're in Australia, which then would be cheaper). BTW, if ribbon cables are faulty and not connecting the laser assembly to the motherboard properly, here's the effect you'll get 100% of the time -- once you get to the CD menu, the objects on the lower corners (usually a green cube), will look all blown up to a fatter sphere-ish shape, and the color will be red. Take a look at this clip if you're unsure of what I'm talking about -- 10 secs in for the "green cubes", about 42-43 seconds in for the red-sphere look. The guy's playing music, so the object will be rapidly inflating/deflating with the music, but in your case, if your motherboard isn't "seeing" the laser assembly, the shape will be permanently blown up and red once you pop in to the CD menu. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpPHFIed7nECan i also take you up on your offer please(i'll have to check my va 11 board to see if the ribbon cable is the same width /pin count) ?

Yeah, send me a pm with your addy two of you, and I'll see what I can do.
And bigsanta, I'd say about a 90% chance yours is a 20-pin model, but I have seen mk1 units with 21-pin ribbon cables more than once, so do make sure.

It was a 21 pin cable, was being the word.As now,i just removed both cable connectors and soldered in a direct connection, using 1mm stranded wire . But it didn't work all i get now is no laser action at all.It goes straight to the big sega saturn screen, then you can hear a sort of quick pff from the tv's speakers (like when you short a connection on a speaker wire)and then there's just a black screen .The reset button has no reset action. But if i remove the 4 pin connector to the left, then when i turn on the saturn,it goes straight to the bios screen/music player and the left cube is huge and red ,but the right cube is green ,but looks i bit bigger than normal!Still no action on the laser, both movement or any laser light ! I have checked my solder job for continuity and they're all ok ,(pin 1 goes to 1 ,2 to 2 etc )but location 9 and 14 on the laser assembly (ex ribbon connector) show that they are connected,so i don't know if that's supposed to be that way. Also,my wires are about 10" long .
