Having recently played once more through the eerie and disturbing D, and just today finished Creature Shock(which generally doesn't seem intended to be scary, but many of the death scenes are unsettling), I've given a bit of thought to the world of horror on the Saturn. I still haven't played what seem to be the most renowned fear fests on the system, Resident Evil and Deep Fear, so I put to the rest of you: What do you think is the scariest game available for the Saturn?

Not sure about scary but Deep Fear really put me on edge a lot, especially the first time I played it.
D and Enemy Zero were both genuinely unsettling, but as far as actually scary the only thing that comes to mind is the first time a genestealer jumped me in Space Hulk, I almost literally shit myself,

Ask Yuji, he happens to have several Japanese exclusive horror games for the Saturn, many of which he's never played.
This is gonna sound sad, but when I first played it all those years ago, I found the odd part of Virtual Hydlide scary (like the vampire boss). Not scary anymore though.

I'd say Burning Rangers. So much pop in and black blocks that dissapear as you move away its like the levels falling apart... RUN AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY.
Stupidity aside,
Deep Fear had me on edge too, there's not just the monsters to worry about but also the levels of oxygen in some areas, it was a fantastic experience. Enemy Zero had me unsettled too foir a while but I just couldn't get into it. Getting used to that beeper and where the enemy is was just far too difficult. If it shown the enemies and had a better weapon other than charging it might have had a much wider appeal among people. Or even better no weapon but you see the monster and have to run. Invisible enemies is just lame and makes it more frustrating than challenging. Bad design choice.

Virtual Hydlide for me. I'm constantly scared that the poor controls & bad collision detection will fuck me over every time I get into a fight.

Only one game has ever made the hair on my neck stand up on any console. That was at the beginning of Resident Evil when you walk into one of the first rooms and a zombie is chomping on your partner.

Encountering an Alien on Alien Trilogy would rank as a genuinely tense Saturn gaming moment for me. My reaction was always to back-pedal whilst spraying shotgun shells indiscriminately all over the place! The tension and number of shotgun shells wasted only increased when there were two or more Aliens to deal with ;D Good times

I find that Resident Evil loses any shock factor after the first playthrough, which can also be said for Deep Fear because of its similar nature. However, there's no doubt Alien Trilogy is great for more repeated scares... and am I really the only person who finds the general atmosphere - especially the constant threat of flash fires - in Burning Rangers a little terrifying? (Unlike a certain earlier poster, I'm being 100% serious about this one!)

Besides the already mentioned games Exhumed had a very scary atmosphere to me. As I remember it was not an easy game and all the dark areas and brilliant light effects contributed to a scary feeling and made me always hope that there are not more enemies

Another pretty scary Saturn moment for me was encountering the T-Rex for the first time in Tomb Raider. The sense of scale was brilliant. Your character appeared tiny next to the T-Rex which just added to the tension.
Even on repeated plays I would still be tense whilst I inched forward waiting for that bad boy to appear. After that it was a case of legging it to the nearest platform and cowardly shooting it from above ;D
