Played the crap out of this on my saturn when it was first released and remember seeing a review of the PSX version in CVG which got 4 out of 5 (The saturn version got 5 out of 5 ;D )
Bought the PSX for £3 and decided to see what had changed. At first I thought is was just a straight port with the spiders changed to scorpions, but after afew minutes you really start to see a difference.
Saturn version:
PSX version
(Selkis path is 4.43 in)
I'd say this game is more a remix as almost every level has been altered. The bomb jump has gone, the frame rate isn't quite the same speed (it really gets choppy with alot of enemies on screen) & the wall seem to 'warp' in shape when you get close. Animation is missing from the guy at the start and the controls aren't as tight. The dolls are also missing (either that or I'm really shit at finding them). In the PSX favour the resolution is slightly higher (to me) & its harder.
Its still a great game & if you loved the saturn version its worth a playthrough.

I'm a sickeningly huge Lobotomy fan in every way *seen the interview with Ezra Dreisbach on this site? He's the mastermind who made these Saturn gems run*
The PSX is significantly different indeed, there's huge differences between both titles, the PSX has a higher resolution but duller colours, different level layouts and that's about it.
Both games are worth owning on each system though, yeah pretty much what you said. The team dolls ARE in the PSX port but with the changes levels they can be slightly difficult but from what I remember a number of them are in the same places in levels.
I'm a huge fan of the game and it was my FIRST Sega Saturn title back in 1996 when I was a kid. I still play it at least once every year or two since 1996 and I still enjoy it.

Whoa, now this is quite the coincidence, as I've decided to start my playthrough of the PS version today... that was soon cut short when I found out I need a PS1 memory card even when playing on a PS2.
Glad to hear there are different Team Dolls in this one, I've already noticed a suspicious spot that was absent in the Saturn version. One of my biggest regrets in gaming is having looked for the dolls' location on the internet more than a decade ago.

I owns it on CD and while it isn't as good as it's console brothers it's still a fun ride although far more difficult. Lobotomy originally wanted to port the PC versions to consoles but couldn't due to limitations and I for one am glad! Everything about the console versions design was superior.

From what I remember it was indeed completely different from the Saturn version. Is it playable with a pad or is it keyboard only?

The Ezra Dreisbach interview is quite eye opening. After reading SSM you'd be forgiven for thinking the Saturn was a 3D first person behemoth and Lobotomys machine of choice. However it seems they were stuck with it and just made the best of the situation. I remember reading how Playstation couldn't handle Quake and never knew Lobotomy had already made a version!

Yeah it's a fantastic read and am SO happy that I could contact the lead programmer from my FAVOURITE 3rd party game company of all time on the Sega Saturn.
The Saturn was behind the PSX in many areas of 3D there's no denying it, the saturn had some fantastic looking titles but the biggest issue with Saturn 3D is the low resolution.
A perfect example (sorry for getting off topic),
Look at Sega Rally on PC or even the Daytona USA PC version, they both share the exact textures and models of the Saturn but the higher resolution the games run at make them look more smooth and far less grainy. Same with many other Saturn to PC ports. Draw distances don't bother me it's the grainy low resolution jaggy models xD
