Does anybody know, or have a link to the controls for Cotton 2? I have had a quick play and a read on the net and it seems you need to use certain moves (like in Vs Fighting games), but im struggling to find anywhere that explains this in any great detail or provides a list of the moves your expected to carry out?
Cheers,

I think there is a list in the manual? I found them somewhere.
I did the same when I first got the game, but once you learn the moves it is a much better experience.

mancity... haven't checked anywhere, but I own the game (and Boomerang). The special moves controls are something along the lines of: B, DB, D + Fire for a reverse blast in the corresponding direction and F, FD, D + Fire for a forward to down blast There may have been more, but these two I used a lot

Sorry for bringing this back to life again but did people figure out the controls? I've just dug this out in what seems like years and although I think I got most of the controls back there is one that just alludes me and I just seem to do it at random... This one!

It's actually any 2 directions + A, and the directions pressed will affect the arc of the ball. And yes, you can make the ball big enough to cover the entire screen; do it fast enough, and it will prevent you from picking up any teapots, which gives you a special bonus (multiple tech sphere bonuses will appear). On later levels, those spheres are worth more points.
As for the special combos, the game lists them in either one of the game over screens or if you let it run a demo for a little while (forgot which). The ones I know of are: (tap same direction twice) + A - make a ball that you can grab and throw, you can make the ball bigger by hitting it with another ball. back, forward + A - rapidfire forward, back + A - triple shot f, fd, d + A - arcing rapidfire downwards, from front to back b, bd, d + A - arcing rapidfire downwards, from back to front (Cotton Boomerang only) f, fu, u + A - arcing rapidfire upwards, from front to back b, bu, u + A - arcing rapidfire upwards, from back to front (Cotton Boomerang only) b, f, A, b, A, f, fd, d, A - rapidfire, triple shot, TWO arcing rapidfires (both upwards and downwards at the same time). f, fu, u, A in the end also works. (Cotton 2 only) b, f, A, b, A, b, A, f, A - rapidfire, triple shot, TWO arcing rapidfires, then summon a dragon (Cotton Boomerang only). I just spam back + A then forward + A once the combo starts. All the above combos will seal an enemy automatically, if they do the kill hit. f, fd, d, db, b + B - grab AND seal the enemy (this is your default grab in Cotton Boomerang) f, f, b - make Silk or Needle (the fairy and the living hat) take off or settle down on you. They automatically take off when you are hurt a lot. Cotton 2 only. b, f, b, f + C - remove one of your magic slots, without producing a special attack. Cotton 2 only. up, uf, f, fd, d, db, b, bu, u, down + A + B + C - suicide Hold A - move faster Hold A, double tap direction - dash in a direction (Cotton 2 only) Hold A, release - summon a dragon (Cotton Boomerang only). This one has a long cooldown, but you can spam the combo that ends with a dragon, then do this hold move, and you can spam dragons nonstop. It's important because the dragon cancels incoming fire.

And if you played the game a few times, an option will unlock, that allows you to map XZ and LR to the arcing shots and Y to the mini rapidfire move, OR, have XYZ act as rapid button presses for ABC. Very useful stuff.

The game shows a screen with all those combinations when you die. I wouldn't have figured them out otherwise.
Also you can start with 3 of the same magics by holding up + A or B or C when you start the game.

would love a gif-based control guide if you feel like making one!

Again; when you die in the game, it shows a screen with the combinations.

Again; when you die in the game, it shows a screen with the combinations. That must be Boomerang's game over ending because I haven't seen it appear on the normal cotton2 game
