Something has just clicked!
Can I just use the USB TV Capture device above (connected to my laptop), and connect it straight to my Saturn, then play the game on my laptop screen (recording at the same time)?
Obviously this is not ideal, but it's only for short periods to capture gameplay, so I dont NEED to see the game on both my TV & laptop.
If I am correct, what would the quality be like on my laptop? Sharp, pixelated and ugly?

and with high input lag.

So really, I DO need to split the picture so that I can play the game in 'real-time' on the TV, whilst the TV capture card captures the picture at it's own pace?
So lol, will the SCART splitter I added an image of work with the capture card?

That's not a SCART splitter that's a SCART switch.

That's not a SCART splitter that's a SCART switch. So it's no use then?

On the verge of giving up here I cannot find a av spliiter box (or scat splitter box) which has the ability to give 2 outputs at once! Does anybody have one and can tell me where they got it? I cannot find anything on e-bay!

My method which produces excellent results and almost zero lag:
Saturn > DVD Recorder > TV
Record to a DVD, drag and drop the .VOB files onto your PC/Mac and either import directly into something that supports it or convert. Premiere supports importing .VOB if you simply rename the file extension to .MPG
You can pick up a used DVD recorder for under £20 nowadays and most, like mine, have the option to record higher than standard DVD picture quality (fitting around 45 mins per DVD)

Spot on, I also have the easycap but the DVD recorder method produces notably better results.

This is the third time I've used this image but I feel it's an appropriate time to pull it back out. This is my setup when I record footage for my YouTube channel (minus the microphone). A good 90% of all my videos were captured this way. The only downside is using the splitter can cause some feedback in the recording. Could just be my TV doing it though.

Spot on, I also have the easycap but the DVD recorder method produces notably better results. Have you tried doing this with a US or JP system & if so was the capture quality just as good? I'm wondering because the quality of the video I capture from my JP system using the normal way is significantly worse than PAL footage. That & I had to do some serious fiddling before my EU TV would properly display RGB from my JP Saturn.

I have a region & 50/60hz switched PAL system I use for all capturing and the recorder has accepted everything that system can throw at it, I cant honestly say I've even bothered trying piping one of my JP or US systems through it.
The recorder DOES have PAL/NTSC support through the SCART input though, would certainly be something I could check out at some point...
