hi dudes have being lurking these forums for years and made an account recently, brilliant community. i bought a model 1 pal saturn on ebay, i got it, played for about an hour and half, turned it off to put another game in , and turn back on and these weird vertical scrolling lines start coming up screen and my saturn cant read any discs, so i did search on net and found people saying it was a psu overheating problem, so i bought a new psu for it the right one (i think),and got that and i think it fixes the overheating problem but when you play it for more then 10 mins and it turn it off it wont come back on for another 5 mins, can any of you dudes help me on this? thanks

The vertial scrolling line thing can be fixed if you put a little fan near the psu. I could play games all day long with that, on a machine that started going nuts after half hour normally.
Dunno about the other thing.

I was thinking about doing that but i found no tutorials on doing it and im not that good at soldering but might be able to do it, but i have this new psu i thought it would have just fixed it, but by the looks of things it hasnt

You don't even need soldering, just make sure the pins are stuck in the psu connector firmly and won't shake loose. The ground pin to the ground pin, and the voltage pin to either the 3,3v, 5v, or 9v pins - depending on how fast you want the fan to spin. Higher voltage = higher fan speed. Higher speeds cool it better but are noisier, but at lower speeds the fan may not even start, depending on what voltage it is rated for (you can get fans rated for lower voltages, most are designed for 12v but run fine on 9v or even 5v).

I don't have the fan in it anymore, or use that machine regularly.
You can just put the fan wherever it fits. There are plenty of space, just make sure it pushes the air around the PSU in one form. I recall I installed it just next to the PSU, so it wasn't directly pointed at it, just moved the air right next to it - it was between the Power button, PSU, and CD Drive, and it was facing the back of the console. It was enough to make the thing go all day long.
It was a VA3 model 1 machine (the one with separate controller board and 21pin cdrom), and I used a small fan, like 3x3cm or so (don't remember).

It may even be incompatible. Though model 1 PSUs were fairly universal, but you may be trying to put a model 2 pal psu in it, which could be a big problem (different voltages).
If it's a model 1 PAL machine then it can only be VA0, 1, or 3. VA0 uses different type of psus which are attached from the top. VA1 still has a 20-pin cdrom that has another connector next to power and multiple potmeters. VA3 has the 21pin cdrom connector and also a separate.

It's often far less hassle to buy another machine, tbh. You can pick up machine-only deals on eBay all the time for not much outlay at all. Then there's no need for faffing about with compatability issues and parts.
