Well done on missing the point entirely and going off on a rant. While somewhat true that doesn't take away from amazing plot turns and emotional trials you go through when you get connected with the characters and their story. With an attitude like that why play any game? Zombies? oh jsuty some virus turning everyone over yawn. Oh another military shooter? save the world from nukes and terrorists. oh another platformer? oh collect some generic coin object while jumping on things. Oh another space shooter? ah great fly around learning a pattern and constantly shooting. awesome.
Notice how pretty silly such generic statements become?

Shining force doesn't really have that big of a story though, at least not 3. I've played through it and it's not exactly truly moving or great story telling. Other games such as final fantasy or grandia which have truly moving and deep stories does make a difference, not only that but usually there's cutscenes and other things, and I dunno, text on the screen with everything happening is one thing but to divert your attention back and forth just seems kinda meh. Like I said if its your ONLY option to play the game fine, but there's an english version so you're kinda cheating yourself out of it. Each to their own. shining force 3 has a fantastic story full of great plottwists but it's not as greta if you don't play the other 2 scenarios. the story basically spans 4 games, starting with julian in shining the holy ark asking for his father who was killed by galm until the final scenario where you finally play as julian and the game has it's story climax

Lol, talk about rants.
I never said the games were not fun. Are you saying gameplay is completely irrelevant? Even though most Jrpg's have extremely similar plots I will happily play them if they are fun, just don't expect me to care about the story. A great battle system can carry an RPG almost by itself. Same goes if the story is amazing & the gameplay is bad, I will still probably push though just to finish it.

^ again thats insane. I loved shining forces beldn of rpg and strategy don't get me wrong, but most JRPG's are not worth even a slight amouint of time if the story doesn't grip you and make you want to follow the characters and see what happens, how the react etc, it's basically like playing a book in that respect. At least thats how I like to view it as

Hm... the English version of Grandia is expensive?
*checks eBay*
Whoa, $80?! Man, I'm so glad I managed to get a used copy from a closing video rental store for a few bucks all those years ago! (I'm not trying to troll or rub it in anyone's face or anything, I'm genuinely surprised at this development.) Me, if the game in question has no English release, I'll use a guide. With Grandia, I've been playing through the PS1 version, and have started a playthrough on my Saturn one. That way, I can still enjoy the game since I already know the story.

that's why I plan on playing through saturn version with a script. it's not too much of a hazzle. I did with sakura wars and I loved it. I just hated all the printing

I want translations for Madou Monogatari and Wachenroder, personally. MM has a compression format that has been cracked more or less, but the game script uses some custom format that I don't understand.
Haven't checked Wachenroder at all yet, but it's a game I want to try out. Also, Shiroki Majou and Princess Crown.

Don't forget that doing town wandering from a printed script is a bit tricky, particularly if you don't force yourself to go through in the exact order that the script lists the NPCs. Don't get me wrong, though; I personally have little problem with playing a game with a printed script, and have done so with more than one RPG. In Grandia's case, it was more than worth it to save $70, enjoy better visuals, indulge my Saturn fanboyism, and not have to listen to the atrocious English voice acting the game got. But I can certainly understand why some gamers don't want to bother with printed scripts.

Grandia for the saturn is like 8 bucks, in fact every import rpg for the Saturn besides Shining force 3 costs less than 10 dollars and If i remember correctly, Grandia for ps1 had terrible translations, the dialogue still didn't make any sense

I hope that ones comes to fruition as well. I love playing the shining force 3 scenarios in english now

Just picked up a cheap copy of Strahl - hopefully it'll be as entertaining as it looks.
