Hmmn this is making me think that my saturn has stopped outputting RGB now as i have tht cable, before it was switching between composhite and rgb on my tv now its just composhite I think we already established that the reason it's not working is because you are using it with NTSC consoles.

Well i'll open it up during the week on my day off and see whats happening, but i'm thinking that it could just be a pal scart i was given with this NTSC machine.

I don't have NTSC my self so can't comment.
My model 1 is PAL 50hz out of the box and never been touched. My MK2 is switched, does all regions & 50/60hz but is a PAL machine.

PAL machines have different pinout in the a/v out. They have +9v DC on the place where NTSC machines give raw sync. This is like this in all PAL machines independent of 50/60hz switching. You need to either mod the console to output voltage instead of raw sync, or get a NTSC compatible scart rgb cable.
This has been discussed a hundred times already, it is a known issue.

Yeah I know that, the point i'm making is the machine was supplied with this cable, and the shop i bought it from it was the guy who runs it own saturn and he never had issues with the scart, so maybe his tv was fine with it.
I'll get another NTSC lead if that works then fine, but if not means i have a fault in the saturn

I've seen a few posts about saturn rgb issues. I've never had any, bought some self made cables off ebay for my pal console years ago and it worked perfect. then bought a scart that was made specifically for the NTSC JP saturn, and had no problem, perfect clear stunning picture...
I don't get what people are having trouble with

My concern is i was probably given a pal scart with my saturn, so once i get an ntsc scart i'll know if the saturn was at fault or the cable

You can't use PAL RGB scarts on NTSC machines. I looked on ebay and noticed the seller had an rgb for NTSC and PAL so I messaged him and he confirmed you need the NTSC one for JP consoles as it has something different in how its setup to PAL. I didn't really care for details, as long as I know what cable I needed I just bought it, and never been happier

Yup i know you can't, and i bought a jp saturn that came with rgb scart, but it doesnt seem to be outputting rgb picture, so could be a fault in the lead of my saturn, ordered a jp scart off the bay just now so will see when that gets here what results i get

I'd say chances are it's the lead. Saturns tend to be very well built in my experience at least.

You guys are running around in circles. This has been explained hundreds of times already. - PAL Scart cables work with PAL saturns and may or may not work with NTSC ones. They only work fine with NTSC saturns if you mod the machine and remove c-sync output. - NTSC Scart cables work with all consoles equally. - NTSC Scart cables with Raw Sync will ONLY work with NTSC consoles that have c-sync output. If you use them with a PAL Saturn, you could possibly damage either the TV or the Saturn. There are also official japanese scart cables, these are not scart but rgb-21, its a japanese standard with completely different pinout. They'll only work if you have a japanese set that accepts this, I believe the x-rgb is wired for these cables. Yeah I know that, the point i'm making is the machine was supplied with this cable, and the shop i bought it from it was the guy who runs it own saturn and he never had issues with the scart, so maybe his tv was fine with it. I'll get another NTSC lead if that works then fine, but if not means i have a fault in the saturn Some TVs work fine with the low voltage that the c-sync signal sends, and stay in RGB mode. Some do not switch at all, and some will switch back and forth constantly. Also, some switch boxes force RGB mode, possibly even some TVs do that or have it selectable. Or the guy was just getting composite signal and didn't knew the difference.

If you use pin 4 for your RGB up signals then the cable would work on either PAL or NTSC machines.
Prab you'd need to stick a multi-meter between pin 1 on the Saturn end and pin 16 on the SCART to see if this was the case.

Like I said, just do it the easy way. PAL saturn = buy a pal scart. NTSC saturn, but an NTSC one. PROBLEM SOLVED

Also, removing the C-SYNC on a Jap Saturn just to get a cable to work is madness. Lots of newer tellies and things like the XRGB3 work much better with raw sync cables. Retro console accessories carries raw sync cables for Japanese Saturns (obviously won't work on PAL machines).
