Sony VPL-CS4 projector (made in 2001). Has composite, s-video, and VGA input, but the VGA connector can also take component (sync on green) and 15khz RGB (with raw c-sync) input. So you need a sync separator, or a machine with raw c-sync output, and solder your own connector for it (composite for sync will not work, you need raw c-sync).
However, the picture quality is OFF THE SCALE.
Basically take the best trinitron crt picture you (n)ever saw, and now imagine it with a 2+ meter screen size. 240p signal is handled flawlessly, as it should be, no hiccups or unnecessary deinterlacing unlike on modern screens. 480i signal (high-res games like Virtua Fighter 2) also works perfect, and looks extremely gorgeous, but the interlacing can be noticed at this screen size. 240p games look absolutely fantastic though. The projector can also do anamorphic 16:9 display for Nights and Panzer Dragoon Zwei.
I've attached a picture I took from Cotton Boomerang - this picture does not do justice for the quality. The actual picture is MUCH sharper. Like I said, the quality is like on the best CRT you can find, with a giant picture size. You can easily see the dot pitch between each pixel.
So you can take a 150$ ten year old projector, which may or may not need extra lamps for 100$ more, solder a special RGB cable for it, and get the most wicked high quality picture you can imagine. Better solution than an XRGB upscaler, if you have the space in your room, anyway.
