the console powers up fine, disks just dont spin. I think when connecting the power wire it may have been touching another power pin as well as the 5v, the whole procedure isnt super hard or anything, i just messed up. It would have been nice to get it working but i've given up. I might send another of my saturns away to get modded by someone who knows what they are doing

Regardless, I won't be trying it. I've no soldering or electronics experience on that level. I know for certain I'd screw it up without learning everything beforehand.

Leo wanna sell me the chip? Not so fast! I already called dibs on it: segasaturngroup.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=hardware&thread=5866&page=3#77123the console powers up fine, disks just dont spin. I might send another of my saturns away to get modded by someone who knows what they are doing In my experience it's pretty difficult to accidentally short out something on the Saturn (and I HAVE tried). I still say you just messed something with the ribbon. 64pin models have a ribbon that is twisted. Also, the cd drive connector is double edged, but the connector on the console side is not, so you can use that as a guide as to whether the ribbon is in fine or not.

The rob webb chip couldn't be easier to install, you slot in some ribbon cables and add one wire. I used the exact chip on that exact board.
I bet the guy has a low grade soldering iron and did a shoddy job connecting the V.0014 connection, or he added the .0019 connection as well.
Seriously add a modchip, I did the swap trick a few times on a friend's saturn jsut to check it out. It is just plain rude to your saturn
