I've been debating for a while of trying some Saturn Homebrew development. However the tools and libraries available aren't the best by a long shot, and it can be very overwhelming for one person.
However I've been thinking that it might not be so bad, and might actually be fun, if a bunch of us came together and worked on a larger project. So for example people here who are not that great at programming but are good with either art, design, or music could contribute in those fields with making the assets and what not.
So what would every one's thoughts be on this? Would anyone be legitimately interested in doing this?

I thought about asking everyone about this a while back but my hands got full and I don't like the idea of needing a modchip to play the game. I'd be interested if I had more time, we had a way to put it on cartridge and had some artists who didn't suck at drawing on board though... I like ASM.

Well if we did do this, any suggestions on what we should make?
One thought I had was we could try to recreate an engine similar to what the PS1 Final Fantasy games used. The hardest part to that would be the battle engine and a lot of that is just pre-scripted animations.

NOPE WE HAVE TO MAKE YET ANOTHER SHOOTER AND ATTRACT PEOPLE ON KICKSTARTER TO FUND OUR R-TYPE CLONE Actually an RPG would be pretty awesome. I could try to come up with a base story or somethin', see what you guys think, then we yell at each other and form the story like a mold? There's nothing I love doing more than staring at a wall all day daydreaming up stories. (Truefact) Also the battle engine wouldn't be THAT hard... if it's a take turn that's super simple. Real time like FF7? Same concept except have a timer run. Pause timers while attack goes off. The hard part here is writing the scripting language for the animations but thats to be expected for any game.

I'd say Saturn pong would actually be a good start. If that proves to difficult , than a RPG is out of the question for sure

Yee.
I did come up with a pretty wild idea for an RPG though as far as theme goes. If I have time I'll try to draw up some concept art or somethin'.

I HAVE NOTHING USEFUL... to contribute tbh, but to see Yart go from making fun of creating a shmup to making an RPG instead is irony at it's finest If it's not a shmup in this day and age, it's an RPG. They're pretty much commonly interchangeable on the homebrew/indy dev scene. Why not try something like an overhead run n gun like Ikari Warriors or Total Carnage instead with RPG elements? Something different yet completely obvious at the same time? I WOULD SUGGEST... doing a side-scrolling beat em up or 1 on 1 fighter but, wow, where does the involvement end with those?!!

Something like Smash TV (arena like to make it easier) would be excellent.

Or something like Myst? Maybe you’re a police officer…. Perhaps called Police Officer Smith?...........hehe NO. None of those either if possible. F*cking pre-rendered point and click 'adventures'. Designed for those who don't actually enjoy 'games'...

They're pretty much commonly interchangeable on the homebrew/indy dev scene... Ah, yea I rarely play RPGs so I don't really keep up with 'em, especially on the homebrew side of things. I never realized how dum I sounded there lol But man, I was totally about to go on about this idea where gnomes and trolls/ogres/dragons fight... IN SPACE! And gnomes build these magical robot suits to become equal and fight these monsters or somethin'... IN SPACE! With magical lasor guns, and changeable robot parts as equipment. And like, these monsters would also be all armored up and look like mechas too. AWW CHYEA!!! We never get sci-fi fantasy take turn RPGs starring gnomes in magical giant robot suits. We need more games with robot piloting gnomes. Who's with me?! Anyways, the cocaine wore off. Honestly I'd love to see another really beautifully crafted platform/adventure game with rich scenery and bright colours but with a nice big map to explore. Really take advantage of that Saturn RAM and play around with that transparent background layer for some really nice lighting. Here's some concept art I drew for like the really awesome lighting engine!!!!!! WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! But seriously we should start with Pong.
