When i play games the right method of control is everything and there are times when the regular 6-button pad just isn't good enough. So which of the above five alternate control methods do you prefer? My personal favorite is the Arcade Racer.

The analog stick has to get my vote. Reading the bickering in various other threads, I fail to see how any of the big bulky arcade controllers could be even remotely enjoyable. Fair enough, I never played with one, but I imagine I'd feel like a spastic sitting with one of those in my lap The steering wheels are okay for the novelty of all of 5 minutes, but I always go back to my classic mk.2 pad.

Shmups and fighters in particular, benefit from the use of an arcade quality controller. For fps and driving, not reccomended. Next best thing to actually having a cab in terms of replicating a genuine arcade experience.

Fair do's mate on the shmup score I'm always suspicious of add-ons for any console. I was never a fan of light-gun games as I always imagined I looked like a knob sitting in my lounge shooting at the telly...

Heh heh......I regularly look like a knob, shooting at the telly with a lightgun, but it's so much fun. Can't imagine playing House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, Point Blank, Time Crisis etc with a pad. Used to like steering wheels on consoles but I did worse with them, as opposed to the arcade. I had a great steering wheel for my N64 for playing roadsters with, now there was a great game, well not great, but there weren't that many decent driving games on N64.........Ridge Racer 64?

For some reason Nintendo consoles seem to lack decent driving games. Prob why Need For Speed sells so well(not saying its good)
