Is this an original Sega Saturn one or a 3rd party cart?

Since the game saves will be lost, you could always just buy a new one.
They're easy to find online but can cost up to £30 so keep that in mind (although they'll normally be around £8 including the P&P charges).
I'd send you one of my two spare ones, but they've been having a few senior moments recently.

I've totally found all memory unreliable since my original System Memory ran out. =P I buy new lithium batteries, and stick them in the back, but still lose game saves. I have a memory cartridge, that remembers the game saves for about six months, and then decides to forget them all suddenly, and wipe itself. =P I can't trust system memory, I can't trust cartridge memory. So recently I bought an Action Replay Pro cartridge with a comms port on the top. And then I bought a Saturn USB DataLink device. Now I can save to Action Replay, and then plug my action replay into my PC via the Datalink device, and make a copy/backup of my save game files.
I only got it for Christmas, so haven't transferred my save games to PC yet. =P But, can let you know how it goes when I finally try it out. ^_^

So some times the cart is read and other times is not ... SO is it the cart is going/gone cos if its age (i bought it back in like, 1996) or is it a faulty (MK1) Saturn port (my gf got it for me for birthday)?

Hmm is there anyone else you know that has a saturn you could try your cart on? cause if its reconising it sometimes then it could be your cart slot.

i think i might have accidently formated my cart when i saved a croc game :S Ouch! I managed to save my Panzer Dragoon Saga Lv 50 save though ;D i reckon its the memory port on the back though, really need to try it on another Saturn... stupid how Croc dint warn me that it would need to format the cartridge though most games do it (i think Bomberman warned me about formating if i tried saving to the cart...) the cart is over 10 years old though...surely they are not meant to last forever...
