How in the name of everything did they balls this game up?
I had forgotten how utterly excellent this game is, infact in survival horror terms I put it up above Resident Evil 1 and 2 without a second thought but why oh why is the voice acting so bad?!
Fantastic atmospheric environments and terrifying attack scenes are just totally laid to shit by the resulting cut scene and its comical voice acting!
It's blatantly obvious that you have Japs attempting Brit/American accents, you have the little black guy who sounds like hes voiced by a special needs kid, the gay guy who seems to be voiced by a Brit (London accent breaks through occasionally) and the United States Navy personnel who are all Australian!!! to name but a few!
Why oh why was this done so badly? I realize it was the last PAL release and Sega were busy gearing up for the Dreamcast but come on! it's just inexcusable!

Actually, the reason for Sega using quite a lot of Australian voice "talent" (and I do mean that in the loosest possible terms!) was due to budget restraints and the fact many of the actors didn't need to travel far - but that was probably a little too obvious, wasn't it? Deep Fear was intended purely as Sega's own response to the shock success of the Survival Horror genre, which broke the previous year with Alone In The Dark and - of course - Resident Evil. With the sequel in development for the Saturn (though Capcom failed to complete this, as it later ended up being finished off as a Dreamcast project to give the all-new Code Veronica a boost along with a quick port of Nemesis as well), there was a point when many developers thought of trying to out-do Resident Evil - see the also-unreleased Fake Down for a perfect example of inexperienced programmers jumping on the post-Biohazard bandwagon. As a final note, did you know that Deep Fear was originally entitled Deep Blue? Could the slight name change have been the result of a secret legal skirmish between Sega and IBM, whose chess grandmaster-beating supercomputer was enjoying the height of its own success around this very same period?

I don't get why people have a go at Resident Evil's voice acting. I wouldn't want the voice acting any better.
'He's our old partner, you know!' 'Whoa! You almost became a Jill Sandwich' 'Jill, the master of lock picking, take this lock pic'
Chris: Whoa! What IS that? Jessica: What? OH NO!
And then the diary by the cupboard:
Itchy, tasty, itchy...
CLASSIC
They get me every time.
In fact, I'd like to ask, is the voice acting in Deep Fear as comical as Resident Evil? If it is it'll be worth every penny.

Twice as comical, I've actually died in it a few times because im laughing so much at the voice acting and not noticing big monsters attacking me.

I got the Jap version of this just as I sold my last bunch of Saturn stuff, so I had it for all of two days or something. I can't remember if there's much English language in the Jap version, do you?

The gay bloke, Dubois or whatever his name is, has quite possibly the most ridiculous voice in the history of all voices. He sounds like Dale Winton on acid with a hot shaft rammed up his arse. You won't believe it until you hear it yourself. Ridiculous!

It's a game I'd love to play. Shame it's so rare...

Oh my gosh... the voice acting in this game is so bad, and so hilarious, that I just had to add it to the list of games I MUST get for this system!

Fantastic game. Loved every moment of it. Certainly one of the best survival horror games, definately on par with the orig Res Evil, if not better. Dubois - his voice always cracked me up lol.
