This is one of those love it or hate it games, I loved the Atari Jaguar version but id never even touched the Saturn version I had...
Until today! this now gets a very high recommendation from me, better visuals (slightly anyway) awesome music and NO slowdown like I frequently got on the jaguar version.
Its so stupidly addictive that ive wasted most of my afternoon playing it.
Its dirt cheap when it comes up for sale so I highly recommend you picking it up!

I bought the Saturn version after selling my Jaguar, and it is slightly improved. Pretty addictive once you get into it.

Ah yeah. I got Tempest X for my Playstation (ew... Sony...) which is pretty much a port of Tempest 2000 (with differences that actually crap up the game as far as visuals; you just can't see half the time!) and I absolutely love it. The best vector game I've played, ever. It's addictive, it's fast, it's got great tunes, it gave my friends a couple seizures (which was just as amusing if not frightening) and it truly is addictive. I remember playing through the whole entire game one night in one sitting. (Minus the last two levels where I finally got game over) The game is just that awesome! (I usually don't have the attention span to play a game for more than thirty minutes) I tried the Jaguar version before (via emulator) but what besides the framerate is improved in the Saturn version? Like... perfect framerate straight through? I'm pretty sure the framerate went down on the Playstation version as well. If that's the case, then score one for Sega! I might have to sell off my Playstation version so I can buy the Saturn one.

The framerate on the Saturn version is spot on, and Im talking about the PAL version!! The visuals seem crisper than on the jaguar version and everything just feels allot more polished and well done.

I played the Jaguar version back in the mid 90s, Christ, I played the arcade version back in the day, but I never played the Saturn version. I'll need to keep an eye out for it.

Lately I've been playing Typhoon 2001, a freeware Tempest 2000 remake. Its a very nicely done homebrew and is a perfect game for my laptop. Check it out: typhoon.kuto.de/index.html

Well I tried Tempest 2000 for the Saturn the other day. In comparison to Tempest X for the PlayStation, I like the gameplay of the Saturn version more, but it lacks when it comes to the crazy seizure inducing effects.
This port is better than the PlayStation version. However I was very sad to see the effects go all slow and stuff like at the end of a bonus round (the one where you fly through the circles) with the text going all crazy and junk. Is it the same on the Jaguar version?
Also the mode with the textures or whatever in between the vector lines (with all the blending colours and junk) look better on the PlayStation, but the sprites and vector lines look better on the Saturn. (The sprites on the PlayStation version are all blurred and interpolated and yuck making the lives counter on the top look worse than a crappy homebrew game made up of stolen pictures off the net!)
