VF2 on Saturn in 50Hz land runs fine - it runs at a properly converted 50fps with no skip or slowdown - the difference between it and 60Hz is negligable.
It actually seems to have a higher resolution from what I gather, since the NTSC version runs at 480i, the Pal version runs at almost full screen 576i - so it is either rendering at that resolution or being scaled to the resolution, and based on the overall look of the graphics, I'd say it's being rendered at that resolution, since the Saturn couldn't do filtered scaling like the Xbox etc.
Sega Rally in Pal land runs at a solic 25fps, it is a notable difference from the 30fps of the NTSC version, however it's not as dramatic as some like to make out.

Yeah, all that said, I still would hesitate to grab the optimized PAL versions, considering such "optimization" jobs can't be considered better than the NTSC original. I mean, rendering 480 to 576 to make it "almost" full-screen isn't considered improving anything IMO, and certainly not lower frame counts.
And even all that considered, these differences still don't give any credence (in fact, it seems to negate more than anything) to wordy's claim of how NTSC-U version of SR & VF2 are massively inferior over PAL and NTSC-J versions.

I wasn't trying to back up his point...
My point was that the difference between VF2 in NTSC and PAL is negligable to the point where it honestly doesn't matter... I don't understand how anyone could seriously be bothered by it at all (50fps and 60fps don't look much different from eachother).
When I say "Almost" full screen, I mean like there is a black border about 4 pixels wide on the top and bottom, which gets cut off by most TVs as most TVs are set up to crop the picture.
Rendering in higher resolution is an improvement...
and so is my face

Ah, yeah - not trying to bust your balls. Just couldn't get my head around what mounted to previously unheard-of claims.

Well well well, now i understand. 1.People threw their PS1 because they can play their PS1 games in their PS2. (but anyways, i agree with you in the fact that 90% of the saturn owners were hardcore gamers pre 1998 that really love their console, most of the people that bought the PS1 were techno ravers etc to play GRAN TURISMO and tune their cars, that game was the death for arcade games). More Sonic X-treme proto (96 e3 thing).,..Shenmue Saturn (that's headshot for old saturn blamer retards).. and of course VIRTUA FIGHTER 3 alongside with SONIC the Fighters are holy grails for every Sega Saturn maniac. I wonder how many Sony fans play their PS1 games {besides rpgs}? Though there is a lot of rpg's I wouldn't mind playing on it... Cutting out the RPG players I bet that number dwindles quickly. And also last week I discovered that an arcade port of Sonic the Fighters is on the Gamecube {along with Sonic R, and Sonic CD} in the Sonic Gems collection. I posted about this in the General forum, but for those that didn't skim through it why not post it here?... Quick moment on Sega Touring Car; I popped it in after 6 years of not looking at it...I remembered it looking poor, but there were some impressive tricks to give the sense of speed. For instance; the ground textures already having a blur look to it. When your going 30 MPH it looks like you going 130MPH....On the contrary when you're stopped and not moving it still looks like you're going 70MPH. Also this time when playing it I noticed how poor the frame rate is...{que exaggeration} When playing some times the frame rate drops so low it feels like your playing an audio book *ZING*.

I have two Ps1s although ones missing a few case components (Mod project I never got around to finishing haha) - Although I mainly just use my Ps2 for playing PS1 games these days.
Although it's not technically a Psx to Saturn port, anyone up for X-men vs STreet Fighter on PS1? ;D
I saw the PS1 version selling on ebay for £80!
WTF?

On the subject of Sega Touring Car (or the PAL version, at least), has anybody else noticed that the frame rate tends to drop the most when you pass under bridges at speed on the Brick Wall Town circuit? Despite all its flaws, I still find STC to be one of CRI's more acceptable conversions - the less said about their MegaDrive port of Galaxy Force II the better, methinks... thankfully they didn't do too much of a bad job when it came to Virtual On!

I think croc may have been better on psx too but I wasn't too keen on that but I was desperate for some platform games..
If you want to talk about 3D transparencies also check out:
Magical Hoppers/ Pandemonium
Dead or Alive the explosions in the danger zone
Shining force III spells
Sonic R's tracks especially Emerald road
Grandia has some transparencies in the spells although they don't look as vivid as the psx spells.
Even Mystaria /Riglord Saga has transparency polygon on the blue crystal save point and thats a really old game!
Nights has some transparencies in the background too. especially when you fight Wizeman and on some of the boss backgrounds

STC was a joke, and the worst thing was, it was the sort of games my mates wanted, due to the Arcade franchise, y'know...you tell 'em about Panzer Dragoon Saga and Sonic R, and make out the Saturn is great...so they get one, see STC, get that, and then come away, thinking the Saturn is crap. Especially at graphics. =P
I never owned the full game mind. It was the SegaSaturn Magazine FLASH Demo disks, that convinced me it was painful to both watch and play. =P But if you got something out of it despite its flaws, then good for you. ^_^

Anything EA ported across seemed particularly bad, lazy conversions, though I guess SEGA could have offered more supoort to the third parties.
Original Wipeout was bad, toshinden was also awful.
