Recently got this from eBay. Booted it up and starter playing, and my GOD is this a hard game!? I sat for hours trying to get to 1st place on the 3 rounds, but no way! I usually get ranked 8th after the qualifier, then maybe end up at 5th after the first race, 3rd after the second, and the last track is hard as shit, and end up out of time! So has anyone of you tried this game for real? Like sat down and played for real? Jesus I had to look into the options to see if there was an "easy" option, and it actually was, but I couldnt really tell the difference. In general the game looked much better than I thought it was, and looks like a real arcade racer, but it seems to have som stuttering and low framerate issues when there's lots of action onscreen. My saturn was also pretty hot after playing the game for a couple of hours.

I bought it back in the day and from bitter personal experience having dropped nigh on 50 quid on the game, the best I can find to say about it is "It's ugly and way too difficult". A few people around here love it though. Not me. I can't bring myself to even get a copy for the collection these days. It would be an insult to my beloved Saturns to subject them to this steaming pile of turd

@petter K
Watch this video (from 3:34) and watch how this guy does the race final.
That is how I always do it too (i.e. Yes. Run into the wall at full speed at the first major corner and run into the wall at full speed at the final hairpin too).
You'll always win. It's not 'right' but the game is so shocking, it doesn't really give you a choice...

Ha... Sega Touring Car Championship Great game. This game has something I do not know what it is . Maybe it's the imperfection, the frame rate that gives you a headache, a sega sauce. I do not know what it is but I have to play the game now.

Is the game in the video running on an emu?
It look far prettier than my JP version. There's almost no pop-up or polygon bending as the track passes under the car.

That's the Arcade/Model 2 version I'm afraid (well spotted), however, the same methods and logic to how to take those corners 'best' still apply

Thanks! Havent tested this strategy yet, but will do! Also, the handling of the cars seem a little different than from the Saturn version (pal), but the track is identical so the strategy should work fine on the Saturn version too. However, I do think the Arcade version seems to have better handling and also better framerate, which in general should make the game a bit easier. Atleast thats my excuse for not winning in the Saturn version

Is the game at least enjoyable? The few times I've read about the game, it's as though the people who tried it only did for a couple minutes, tops. For someone like me who really enjoys Manx TT, Daytona CE (Japan) and Sega Rally, would it be playable? And is there any incentive in playing the Japanese version instead of (in my case) the US version?
P.S. Can the vocals be turned off in the music? The singing I hear in the few videos I've seen is horrid! haha

Maybe someone else can better comment on this. P.S You Sir, are soulless

What is it with Saturn Sega racers that are at least somewhat optimized in Japan vs. their Western counterparts? I always thought these games were all straight ports (is Manx the same for both regions?).
P.S. Thanks to you, I'll be looking to add Touring Car to the collection, bad vocals or not. ;-)

I have the Japanese version of it. Game seems to run pretty decently. It is definitely not arcade perfect and takes some getting used too but I rather enjoy it. Muser you and I should trade copies so we can compare the region difference

P.S. Thanks to you, I'll be looking to add Touring Car to the collection, bad vocals or not. ;-) There are THREE different soundtracks to choose from in-game. You make the selection just after qualifying for the first race. You can choose between: AVEX TRAX, SEGA SOUNDS... and another one I can't remember off hand! So, not all is lost
