Let me start by giving you a backstory which will somehow go someway in explaining my reasons for the title of this thread. Now over 10 years ago around about 2000 I was living in the family home with my siblings. My youngest brother was trying to woo a young lady and brought her back to the house. I was out at work, leaving my brother, the girl and my dad in the house. My brother being 15 and sensitive to my dad also in the house didn't want to conjure up an idea too adventurous so they just watched a film. After awhile she asked if he had any games she could play in which he showed her his display of N64 games. She didn't like the look of none of them. Desperate to impres the girl he goes to my other brothers room to try and load up the Playstation only to realise my brother had once again hidden all the cables, which is something he would regularly do when he was out as he did't want anyone else touching his playstation when he wasn't around. My brothers only option was to borrow my spare room key from my dad and force himself to look through my Saturn collection. I use the word 'FORCE' deliberately as this is something I know would have killed him as I knew how much he hated the Saturn. He originally looked for Nights as he thought she would like it but couldn't find it so he settled on Baku Baku Animal. He'd played this game a few times with my eldest sister and seemed to like it. So he puts it on for his lady friend and she is hooked on it. They played it non-stop for over 2 hours and according to my brother she didn't want to leave. It came to a point where my brother was literally begging for me to leave my door open as thats all she ever wanted to do when she was round. Later that year she actually got a Saturn for herself and bought Baku Baku Animal and come christmas time she introduced Baku Baku to her nan and her nan became hooked on it too.
so its 2015 and this christmas gone I went back to the family home. I don't always take my Saturn with me but I decided to this year. My brother only yesterday said "Bruv, I need to borrow your Saturn" and then he asked if I sill owned Baku Baku Animal. When I asked why, I learnt that once again, it was about a girl. I told him he was mad and to which he replied "Ladies luv the Baku, bruv" This brought a big fat smile to my face as I'd forgotten all about that memory but thought "What an interesting topic disussion for SS Forum. So I wanna know. Have any of you guys experienced the power of Baku Baku Animal over opposite sex? Is it really a game that ladies just love? And to the lady members of SSUK, what's your opinion of Baku Baku Animal? And what are your reasons for liking or disliking it? Is it like my brother once described as being "Just short of an afrodisiac? LOL! I wanna hear your views. Speak up, yall.

Sadly I have no experience with Baku Baku Animal, either firsthand or secondhand, but I greatly enjoyed that story.

Baku Baku is one of my all time favourites, but I've never experienced "The Lynx Effect" you describe

Oh Baku, I thought it was "backup", no wonder girls didn't like my pirate game collection. That's where I've been going wrong all these years eh?
Tragic fact - My girlfriend does not like Nights. I have no idea why.

LOL! @ Mick_aka's screen capture. Oh Baku, I thought it was "backup", no wonder girls didn't like my pirate game collection. That's where I've been going wrong all these years eh? Tragic fact - My girlfriend does not like Nights. I have no idea why. That is tragic, I haven't met a single person that has disliked Nights. 'Backup Animal' has a nice ring to it though but it implies something completely different which I won't go into. That's a whole different game! Glad my story has livened up the board. On a serious note though I think its the maternal factor that gives Baku Baku its appeal, acting on behalf of mother nature and feeding the animals. It's the 'Tamagotchi effect' Back in the mid-90s nearly every girl in my class had a Tamaagotchi cyber pet and on many occasions there were tears when teachers would confiscate them for being distraction tools. "But Miss, my Billy Ray Rabbit might die" "I don't care" Teacher replies. From there it was flood gate mayhem! So maybe BakuBaku Animal was the 'Tamagotchi' of the 32-bit gaming era. Now that I think of it, my sister loved 'Rolo to the Rescue' on the Megadrive and that too is another Animal saving game. So maybe that was the '16-bit Tamagotchi of gaming world....hmmm...I think I'm onto something here, I'll look into this further and share my research. All my fellow SSUK members with spouses make sure you introduce BakuBaku to your other halves and note the changes, if any. That's your homework for today!!!

Put mine in for a quick play and I can only play for a couple of games before getting fed up of it. As for the Tamaagotchi cyber pet I've never been interested in these probably because I like flesh and blood pets that you can handle on emotional and physical levels that those toys can't reach.

Baku Baku is a splendid example of the puzzle genre (I reviewed it on this site). Can't say I have noticed its effect on females - but - I am organising a Baku Baku competition in work end of this month so I can report back on that!

Most people who know me, know I'm not into puzzle games at all. I get bored of them quickly. However, Baku Baku is one of the VERY few puzzle titles I enjoy. It's my favourite in that genre (face-on block puzzler) alongside Trip'D on 3DO...

My wife will happily play Bust a Move, Puzzle Fighter, Magical Drop and many games of this ilk with me. They're a much easier sell than anything involving fighting or killing. I haven't tried Baku Baku Animal as I don't own it yet, but I'm sure she'll dig it. So, er, maybe chicks really do dig the Baku? I don't know anymore.

Curiously enough, since first reading this thread I have noticed that now whenever I even hear the words "Baku Baku" I find myself nursing a semi!
Strange.

Had a Baku Baku intro/warm up session today in advance of a competition tomorrow.
One person had seen this before in an arcade (a N.Ireland one at that) which is impressive as this game is fairly obscure - I didn't think the arcade board made it out of Japan.
The expression on everyone's face was the same on first seeing it - total bewilderment. Once people had a game they got it fairly quickly and it went down pretty well - it's one of the better examples of symbol matching - a genre in which Puzzle Fighter seems to hog the limelight.
I will say this about it's effect on women. One woman who has no interest in gaming sat down near the big screen and watched it while she ate her lunch.
Have 10 people competing tomorrow (2 female). The one girl who played today is pretty hooked but she also really likes Tetris and Bust-a-move so it's no real surprise.
