I've just bought a Saturn and I intend on fitting a flip switch mod the moment it turns up, also picked up a cable listed as RGB SCART but will likely be composite in disguise however it will suffice for now.
Question I have is once I have installed a mod switch and i'm able to play imports, will import RAM carts work or will I need one of those 4-in1 jobbies?
Also if i'm outputting A/V to my TV via RGB does anyone know if audio will pass-through via TOSlink to an AV receiver? This is more for curiosity in advance as i'm wondering if I need to pre-empt the inevitable (it doesn't pass-through) and perhaps invest in a SCART to HDMI "Upscaler" as any inputs via HDMI into my TV happily pass-through to TOSlink.
Also are there any games in particular that don't play nicely on modded PAL systems? I'll likely do some research on this on a case by case basis when looking to buy a game but ya never know these days!

It depends what kind of mod you do. Region control and 50/60hz control are completely separate. Personally I just installed a region free bios, that leaves only the 50/60hz switch needed. You can also get an action replay to bypass the region lock.
The TOSlink output will depend on your TV, but I'm pretty sure those things should just output whatever is going to the TVs speakers, so they should work on all inputs. I use the normal RCA output on my TV instead of TOSlink, but that works fine with my Saturn.
Only games not working fine on a PAL Saturn modded to 60hz would be the PAL optimized titles, of which there are actually a handful.
Be very of third party Scart cables, a lot of them are cheap with zero shielding, they'll get you bad image quality and a lot of noise in the audio.

Thanks for the info.
I totally overlooked the region mod, I was talking about a 50/60hz switch. I'll opt for a 4-in-1 for now as I can get one pretty cheap and look into modding the Saturn further once I know how it all fits together.
I did see RGB cables linked (eBay) on another thread in this section so i'll suck it and see with what I've bought and commit to a higher grade cable if needs be.

Sorry to hijack but, Zyrobs, how'd you install the Bios? Do you have any reputable links?

Like that. Doesn't look like it's straight forwards, I need a new soldering iron before I attempt this one else i'll end up nuking my Saturn before I even play anything on it.

Thanks.
Definitely not straight forward. I have shakey hands at the best of time, I think I'll give that mod a miss.

I use a hot air desoldering kit to remove the bios, then solder in a new one. Faster, simpler, and much less barbaric than cutting off each leg.

If you are going to mod I'd recommend the switchless mod. I just got it on my Saturn and it works great

If you are going to mod I'd recommend the switchless mod. I just got it on my Saturn and it works great I want to try the swithless mod. I've got everything I need except a flashed micro controller. Is that part hard to do? I need a chip programmer, never done it before.
