The prices for deep fear on eBay are way too much for me to justify buying. Has anyone played the import? Is it playable?

It isn't playable without knowing the story unfortunately as you will recieve certain directives ftom the dialouge. You can try and slug your way through it but then what's the point? If the price tag is too unappealing then get Resident Evil. You'll get a similar experience.

I picked up a mint copy with manual two months ago for $110pound - $220AUD. Still pricey but ive wanted this game for years now. I love this style of game and had to have it. Looking at EBayUK now, the cheapest PAL copy is $180pound $360AUD. Makes me feel alright for paying $220AUD ) If you LOVE this style of game as I do, personally, I wouldn't even think about getting the Japanese copy. You just wont enjoy it the same, hang in there and try to find a (somewhat) cheaper copy!

Sega never produced a Japanese voice track for the game.

Mainly from the late 90s and very early 2000s when the genre actually existed. Silent Hill, RE, Dino Crisis etc. However I admit I never played Deep Fear. You figure my fav genre from that era mixed with my favorite system would be a match in heaven but it simply came down to not being released in North America. Sounds silly but I always kinda resented that. However I recently found the USA NTSC version in its 100% complete form (one of those lost and found releases). I feel like having what is basically the North American version, just minus the case and manual has pushed me into finally giving it a go. Im sure Ill like it. Anything with the old style survival horror feel I love. Maybe I can make some mock up cover art and back art for a US version

I got a copy of it for £90 in good condition with manual late last year. I must admit it took A LOT of patience to get it for that price. If you're playing import then there is probably 1-2 sections of the game, which you won't be able to get though without referring to a FAQ or visual walk through. If you can get it for <£110 boxed with manual, then I would snap it up. Don't buy this game if you're not a fan of old school Resident Evil games. Personally, after playing through it. I do believe it's better than either RE1+2.

Crazy to think that when we started this Forum Deep Fear was a £30 game all day long, it's one of my favourite games on the system but I find it had recommending people drop this sort of money on it.
I think if it were hovering around the £50-£60 mark I'd be pushing people to bite the bullet and grab it.

wasn't there some kind of asshole on this forum buying up all deep fear copies to raise it's price? This has become sort of a big practice in the resale game. Happened to alot of NES titles as well.

Big price tag these days. However, It falls into that group of games you can buy with the fall back that you could sell it on for likely a profit in a couple of years. So fairly guilt free!

True that, but the prices are a bit too varied at the moment when it does come up. If you're looking to get it at a vaguely reasonable price (around £100?) you might be waiting a while. Seems the case with a lot of Saturn games at the moment.
I think I paid roughly £80 for my copy about a year ago but I'd been after it for ages.

I'd like a copy of this, and love Res Evil so am keen to play it.
There's currently at least 6 PAL copies on EBay priced between £150-210 , at the moment and have been on for several days. I'm no economist but that smacks of delusional pricing- its a buyer's market when there's that many on offer.
