Because my PAL consoles are proving to be less than reliable, I was considering buying this Saturn model, which is apparently NTSC but runs at 50Hz or 60Hz... can anyone tell me if they've seen this before? cl.ly/image/3y1g1O1u2Z2V

It's an Asian / HK model. Identical to Japanese units (runs games at 60Hz), but it has a 220V power supply so it can run in Europe without converters.

...NTSC but runs at 50Hz or 60Hz... 50 / 60 Hz is a freq of the input voltage, this unit is still NTSC 60 Hz so some of your PAL games may not look properly

If the motherboard is the same as a Japanese saturn, I'd recommend attempting the 50/60hz switch if you want to still play all your PAL games (as some are PAL optimised). It will still work properly for all PAL titles then. Some people don't like brutalising their saturns, which I can fully understand, but honestly if you're up for trying it, it's well worth it. Don't be afraid to give it a shot either. If you've never modded anything before it might seem daunting but the 50/60hz saturn switch was the first ever console mod I attempted. It's not too difficult in relative terms, I was really frightened at first but if you practice dismantling the console, and get familiar with each individual section, carefully handle each bit, and always keep a log of where each screw goes then you'll be fine. I really loved modding my saturn , when the region functionality broke on my Action Replay 4M Plus I did the region switch which was a little more stressful, but once you've had a bit of practice with the soldering iron, it gets mucb easier

Installing a 50/60 switch is more troublesome on NTSC machines, plus they won't output color that way, only if you use an RGB cable (and those will only work on PAL cables due to pinout difference).
Honestly, it is easier to just grab a second PAL Saturn if you already have an NTSC one and want to play 50hz games.

I still have so much to learn! I've never actually seen an NTSC Saturn before. I have only ever hailed from a PAL existence. There was a great feeling of elation mixed with retroactive anger when I first started playing my consoles with 60hz switches. I realised just how much worse we had it lol

Just buy a freq controllable inverter and filter the output pwm wav to a true low freq wav and wham bam thank you ma'am.
