Hi all! As you've probably guessed I'm new to this forum, I was sent by rossi46, who wisely advised me to come here since I'm now the proud owner of this little machine called Saturn. I'm 23, I live near Lille in France (hence the title). I'll be an English teacher next year, but as of now, I'm still a student. I've just bought a Saturn a few days ago and it's my first, I don't know much about it, so feel free to advise me on games, accessories and anything!

Mais je suis français aussi! Bienvenue au SegaSaturn.co.uk!! J'ai oublié comment parler en français, so I'll just cut the French talk and speak in a language everyone else understands. Nice to have you here!

Thanks for the welcome (and the "bienvenue") guys! I'm looking forward to discovering the Saturn. Should I create a new topic so I can get your suggestions?

Good to have you Spooky!!! Let us know what kind of games you like so we can make a quality recommendations. What’s your gaming resume? I like beat'em up games, like Final Fight & Double Dragon, 2D or 3D doesn't matter... But otherwise, all kinds of game suit me fine! I'm not very good at racing games, but I can't imagine having a Saturn and not owning a copy of Sega Rally... So basically, I'm open to all suggestions! As for my gaming résumé, I began playing at age 5 with the Atari 2600, moving on to the NES, Super NES, PS1, PS2, Wii & 360. Being a retro gamer, I'm still playing on all of these machines (except for the 2600, but it's only a matter of time before I get another one) and also on my Megadrive/Genesis & Mega CD.

Good stuff; as for 2d beat'em ups similar to Final Fight...I would recommend Guardian Heroes which is currently priced higher then your probably willing to spend, I think people are trying to put there kids through collage with it... Second, a much better priced {still runs a little high}, but still of quality is Die Hard Arcade. Those are the first two that come to mind... I also always recommend Panzer Dragoon Zwei to everybody. Shinobi Legends is a fun 2d side scroller, but if you haven't played Castlevania Symphony of the Night I would get that first {it's a Saturn game, but it is immensely cheaper it you get the Xbox Live version}. With it being your first Sega system, I would say get Fighters Megamix…but for a few dollars more you can get Virtua Fighter 5. I’ll try to think of others as they come to me…Most of the Saturn's best games are Jp imports.

I saw the jap version at my local shop... Any good shooters? I loved the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2, is the Saturn version nearly as good?

I will certainly follow your advice. As for SOTN, is there a difference with the PS1 version? I saw the jap version at my local shop... The main difference that I know of is you get to play with Maria, which is not possible in the PSX, or 360 versions...I think she is in the PSP version though. If you're looking at SOTN I would just go with the 360 one for it's convenience and price. I missed it when it was on the Saturn, I read it was good but had no idea it was a Metroid type of game, if you haven't played SOTN, to use the proper term...It is a Super Metroid clone...Just Gothic and 32bit; It's good stuff! I tried to think of a cheesy analogy to express sarcasm, but due to my tiredness {not sure if a word} the best I could come up with is...Do aids suck? You can literally throw a rock from your desktop and hit a good Saturn Shooter. Somebody else can give you better recommendations then me in that department. I just so happen to buy Radiant Silvergun by chance when it came out, even to this day it's the best 2d shooter I have played. It's similar to Virtua Fighter, in the sense that you have 3 buttons that you can push in any combination for 6 different weapons, plus a unique combo system, that favors minimalism. But there are other great shooters, which others I'm sure could tell you more about. As I've gotten older, I appreciate the shooter more then I did when I was 16-17...I'm 27 now. I think I'm that way with a lot of the simpler game concepts, I don't know if its nostalgia or the whole '3D' concept not being as new to me. I loved the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2, is the Saturn version nearly as good? VF2...VF2 is greatness, by the time it came out I over played part one, so I didn't think it would be improved upon that much...Boy were my expectations jolted. Comparing it to the arcade, it holds a 60 FPS average, it doesn't have as high of a polygon count {remember when we cared about such things} as the arcade but it is still smooth, clean, and great. It comes highly recommended, but the secret to enjoying a good fighter is having somebody to play with, so if you have that you'll love it. I still would strongly recommend Fighter's Megamix. It is Virtua Fighter 2, and Fighting Vipers combined. It is like a Sega love child, it was a real fans service for Saturn owners. Here is the Wiki page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighters_Megamix

Wow. Some real good tips there. I actually just put some bids in on the lot, apart from SOTN. Must either be the rarest thing, or just too good to part with, probably both. I usually think it is good to judge a game by the cover, and the covers of all these games look cool. You didnt mention Sonic Jam though. Wot a game. ;D
